Diving straight in, shooting at the Nikon booth (Nikon booth) during ChinaJoy 2026 (ChinaJoy 2026) was truly a dual test of endurance and technique. As the cosplayer in front of the camera, I showcased three entirely different looks across those days. Each day felt like fighting an intense battle, but seeing the frames captured on the photographer's GFX100S paired with the Sigma 40mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4 lenses, every ounce of exhaustion instantly vanished.
The black leather nurse Catgirl cosplay on day one was quite the challenge. The patent leather reflected the booth's harsh spotlights intensely; without careful angling, garment textures could easily blow out into a muddy blur. During shooting, I communicated constantly with the photographer to adjust my orientation, making the most of side lighting to carve out the leather's sleek contours and texture. The giant fluffy cat paw gloves were the visual centerpiece but could easily look cumbersome in frame. To keep the gestures dynamic and spirited, I tried various poses—raising my paws or half-covering my face—to channel the catgirl's playfulness without letting props obscure my face or torso. With pink crosses, heart-shaped buckles, and a high ponytail topped with cat ears, the visual impact was undeniable, though the ambient heat on set truly made me feel what it means to be happily exhausted.
Switching to the blue-and-white feather angel dress brought a much calmer shooting rhythm. The garment had rich layering; the cascading lace and tulle demanded delicate lighting, and fortunately the Nikon booth's yellow curved backdrop provided striking chromatic contrast. The wings on my back and plumage on the sleeves posed the main hurdle, getting disheveled at the slightest movement. After each pose, I had to reset the feathers. This outfit was paired with white garter stockings; to showcase the flowing skirt and leg lines, I leaned into airy standing poses and subtle leg lifts, working with clear heels to craft a dreamy, ethereal aura before the lens.
The final look was a pink-haired Maid outfit cosplay. The blue-and-white checkered skirt paired with a dark navy corset and white lace headband created an everyday, sweet charm. Yet the outfit's visual depth rivaled the previous two. For seated poses, a tall barstool served as an ideal prop—I kept my back straight while crossing or angling my legs to stretch visual proportions. The texture of the White stockings looked exceptionally delicate under the booth illumination. The photographer's 85mm f/1.4 lens shone here, offering creamy bokeh roll-off that made the subject pop against the bustling convention crowds, creating convention photos full of live-action energy.
Shooting for three consecutive days at the convention tested not only physical stamina but also honed my on-camera presence. Given the medium-format sensor's blistering resolution, any minor makeup flaw or fabric crease was magnified, prompting me to double-check details before stepping into the light. While shutters clicked rapidly at the Nikon booth, I watched how the photographer utilized different focal lengths to freeze moments: the 40mm offered bold, impactful perspectives suited for expressive gestures, while the 85mm proved more restrained and intimate for rendering facial emotion and fine wardrobe weaves.
