Nahida's white and green outfit is my recent favorite, but during my home costume test in front of the full-length mirror, the results made me burst out laughing right at my phone screen. Just like the teasing in the post, as an adult standing at 160cm, this photo set somehow managed to capture a magical proportion of 140cm.
Looking at the styling details, the main color theme of this outfit is pure white and leaf green. The dress features an off-the-shoulder cut with detached sleeves, adorned with leaf-shaped decorations that perfectly fit the botanical theme. Delicate gold-thread subtle patterns accent the waist, giving the overall look a lightweight, lively natural feel. The most eye-catching part is actually the leg accessories—white stockings paired with complex open-toe footwear featuring white-gold patterns and green gems. This footwear depends on camera angles more than I imagined; it looks stylish from the front, but paired with the wooden floor and rug at home, it creates a fascinating visual shortening effect.
To recreate the character's features, the medium-long wig with white-to-light-green gradient hair needed to be carefully combed. The green hair clips on both sides and the pair of long pointed elf ears are the absolute soul of the look, instantly evoking the feel of a forest elf once put on. However, limited by home conditions without natural outdoor lighting, I could only take selfies in front of this full-length mirror.
The biggest pain point of mirror photography is focal length distortion. Everyday main smartphone wide-angle lenses inevitably stretch the edges of the frame at close range. When standing up straight with the camera some distance from the mirror, I could barely maintain my original 160cm proportion. But as soon as I sat down, cross-legged or with legs dangling, the height of the mirror and shooting angle compressed me into a cute, petite figure. Combined with my naturally small frame and the loose A-line cut of the outfit, all visual focus landed on the upper body, the short skirt, and bare leg lines, reinforcing that "petite and adorable" illusion.
I personally love this contrast. To outsiders, 160cm is quite tall, but being able to shoot a chibi-like effect here feels like a unique bonus easter egg from this cosplay set. I even tried different poses, such as sitting on the floor or in a chair as in the second and third photos, stretching my legs out or slightly curling them up. This not only showcases the character's lively nature but also adds composition depth through negative space around the feet and ornaments. In particular, this open-toe leg armor allows easy barefoot movement for indoor shooting, and its presentation under the reflective mirror turned out much better than I anticipated.
Speaking of prop wearing, these complex shoes required solving fit issues. Although equipped with straps, perfectly showcasing the Dendro element texture in front of the mirror made putting them on and taking them off quite troublesome. To keep the footwear from slipping, I even wrapped an extra layer of non-slip tape around my ankles, but thankfully the final look in the reflective mirror was deeply satisfying.
For cosplay, indoor mirror selfies are often considered the most basic "costume tests." Yet, it is precisely this casual recording without filters or elaborate backgrounds that best reflects the outfit's silhouette and authentic fit. I must admit that without any outdoor scenery—relying solely on a full-length mirror, white curtains, and indoor wooden floors—bringing out the vibe of a forest Dendro Archon from this outfit really tests prop details and one's mindset during post-shoot processing. When the lighting wasn't sharp enough, I adjusted the angle of the mirror to let the living room ceiling light illuminate the wig on top, reducing shadow areas.
Overall, although this indoor costume test brought a hilarious visual height illusion, it offered a fresh perspective for photo shoots. Sometimes, instead of fixating on perfect outdoor locations, using mirrors, chairs of varying heights, and rugs at home can create unexpectedly great compositions. Though simple in composition without vast natural surroundings, the character's white and green tones harmonize beautifully with the white curtains, making the entire frame feel clean and crisp.
