[Puppet Cosplay] The 7th of the Fatui Harbingers: A Vintage Tea Party in a Retro studio photoshoot

The costume details for this Puppet Cosplay are truly immense. Character-wise, this is the attire of the 7th of the Fatui Harbingers, designed with extensive color blocking in gold, white, and wine red. The upper body features a white off-the-shoulder corset bustier, accented with a golden frame and ruby gemstone at the chest, complemented by a black standing-collar choker adorned with a golden jewel and red diamond embellishment in the center. The arms feature detached black sleeves accented with striking golden diamond patterns and deep red pleats, bordered by white lace ruffles at the sleeve cuffs, along with short white gloves on my hands.

The lower half features a voluminous, tiered wine-red poofy skirt decorated on the front with an enormous golden insignia resembling a shield or blossoming flower. Beneath and behind the hem lie layers of white and red underskirts, tied together with a black ribbon bow at the waist for pronounced layering. Wearing this dress reveals its substantial weight, gently swaying with every step taken.

For hair and makeup, to capture the character's demeanor, I wore a light brown long straight wig with neatly trimmed blunt bangs and vivid bright blue contact lenses. Given the character's doll-like aura, I intentionally highlighted the flush on my cheeks and defined the eye makeup. I paired this with White stockings and black platform heels decorated with golden bows on the vamps, harmonizing the entire color scheme.

This shoot took place at the Zhengzhou Shiyue Cosplay Experience Hall. The venue's vintage European scene was an impeccable match for this outfit. The set was furnished with a rich red vintage leather sofa draped with long pearl necklaces across its backrest. Beside it, a wooden side table held an antique telephone, gold-framed photos, and classic books. Using a vintage lantern and teacup as props, I leaned back on the couch or sat casually on the carpet to experiment with various poses. The texture of the red sofa and the soft glow of golden candelabras elevated the cinematic ambiance of the entire series. The scene was bathed in warm yellow lighting, which created exquisite specular highlights across the wine-red skirt hem and White stockings.

During the shoot, the voluminous silhouette of the tiered skirt restricted wide movements—especially while seated, where the arrangement of the skirt hem required meticulous positioning. Yet it is precisely these elaborate details that render the final photos so opulent. The pairing of White stockings and platform shoes accentuated the leg lines beautifully when seated. The photographer offered wonderful posing direction, capturing numerous organic candid moments—such as lowering my gaze while lifting the teacup, or sitting effortlessly on the carpet holding the lantern.

The overall shoot took quite a long time because the positioning of the skirt hem and sleeves required constant adjustments to ensure the golden ornaments never shifted out of place in frame. Fortunately, the resulting colors and textures were completely ideal. The heft and exquisite craftsmanship of this Maid outfit-inspired costume were presented flawlessly before the lens.

To maintain visual tidiness while highlighting the theme, we tested various compositions—from full-body standing shots to intimate half-body close-ups. Full-body shots comprehensively revealed the structural tailoring of the dress, while close-ups emphasized facial nuances and accessory details. Different perspectives brought completely distinct visual experiences. Given the character's inherent aloof detachment and doll-like porcelain refinement, I carefully controlled my facial expressions throughout the shoot, sustaining a tranquil, cool demeanor to avoid exaggerated expressions. The final cuts preserved the character's persona while blending organically into the venue's antique atmosphere. Fusing anime elements with authentic physical sets in a Retro studio photoshoot has always been a creative style I adore.

The textures of the fabric—such as the satin luster of the skirt's surface and the sheer tulle of the inner underskirt—revealed nuanced sheens under the warm light, which is another reason the photos look so rich in texture. The contrast between the black sleeves and white gloves made hand movements a subtle visual highlight when reaching for the teacup or holding the lantern. Combined with the sleek lines traced by the White stockings when seated, the subject's overall bodily proportions were elegantly flattered. Photographing attire with such intricate layering puts both costume fidelity and the photographer's mastery of light and shadow to the test. Collaborating this time yielded images with the timeless aesthetic of a vintage oil painting. The color palette remained harmonious without any jarring tones, delivering pure visual comfort.
