The photos taken at the Joy City Reverse: 1999 (Reverse: 1999) pop-up store turned out exceptionally well this time. To accurately recreate Marcus (Marcus cosplay), I devoted considerable thought to the outfit's coordination. The long navy-blue trench coat serves as the very soul of the ensemble; I specifically chose a fabric with substantial weight and clean draping so it would retain a vintage, graceful silhouette while moving. I adore the cuff design—the folded grey-and-blue plaid accents harmonize beautifully with the navy base, while the blue ribbon bow on the chest introduces an exquisite touch of academia styling.
The colossal dark-brown plush creature hat is without a doubt the most eye-catching centerpiece. To keep it firmly anchored atop my head, I added concealed bobby pins to the inner lining. Its two large eyes and petite orange ears faithfully channel the character's iconic design; though noticeably hefty, the photographic payoff was worth every ounce. The chunky cream-white cable-knit scarf around the neck not only complements the winter mood, but tucking the lower face inside flatters facial contours while amping up the cuteness. The crossbody doll bag is equally packed with detail: styled with brown hair under a grey newsboy cap alongside a round blue teardrop charm, it stands as the most spirited accessory of the entire styling. Carrying the small black lantern prop in hand introduced an enchanting hint of fantasy to the frame.
On the makeup side, to stay true to her 2D anime roots, I wore bright, highly pigmented blue contact lenses. The eye makeup focused on enlarging the eyes, gently elongating the outer corners, and layering fine shimmers across the lids, paired with soft pink blush for a delicate, doll-like finish. The wig features light-brown cascading waves, with delicate micro-braids woven on both sides to give the hairstyle richer dimensional depth. Styling the wig was trickier than expected: maintaining that voluminous, airy texture without looking messy required sculpting each curve with a curling iron and locking it in place with setting spray, all while ensuring the heavy hat didn't flatten the bangs. For the crossbody doll bag, I scoured online shops for the most faithful match, even tailoring the strap length by hand so it rested at the perfect proportion across my torso.
The set dressing inside the pop-up store was deeply atmospheric—wooden display cabinets and an assortment of plush dolls made me feel as if I had truly stepped into that fantastical realm. I crossed paths with so many fellow fans on-site, exchanging greetings and snapping photos together; this electric camaraderie is always what draws me most to offline events. Under the venue's soft lighting, this vintage, plush-accented ensemble translated with rich texture before the lens. Because the hat and scarf are quite bulky, I angled my body into three-quarter stances while posing to avoid looking puffy, highlighting the coat's tailored lines while keeping my posture relaxed and natural. The wooden backdrops and warm ambient illumination added an inviting coziness to the shots, harmonizing flawlessly with the outfit's overarching aesthetic.
