For this personal portrait shoot of Gokou Ruri, I specifically chose this blooming sea of bougainvillea. Although Gokou Ruri is best known for her signature black gothic lolita attire, I really wanted to explore a fresher, more casual everyday side of her. This white lace camisole dress paired with a wide-brim straw hat was my interpretation of what a summer vacation look might be for an otaku girl like her, and it turned out to blend surprisingly well with the floral atmosphere. I spent a long time searching for the right wig, eventually settling on this straight, deep-purple long wig with blunt bangs; the edges were trimmed neatly to frame my face while preserving that classic 2D anime feel, and the sheen of the synthetic fibers looked completely natural under direct sunlight.
For the makeup, to complement the white sundress and the bright outdoor environment, I went with a sheer, dewy base, spending ample time setting it to prevent shine. The blush was a soft, petal-pink swept lightly across the tip of the nose. The main emphasis was on the eye makeup: wearing dark brown contact lenses, slightly elongating the eyeliner to create an innocent yet tsundere cat-like gaze, and dotting fine glitter across the lower eyelids for a lively sparkle in the sun, paired with natural individual lash clusters.
The sunlight on the day of the shoot was simply gorgeous, filtering through the foliage to cast natural light and shadow over my face. To enhance the romantic vibe of the floral scenery, I deliberately styled the coordinate with White stockings and classic leather shoes. In the swing shots, I lifted the hem of the dress slightly to accent the White stockings and leg lines, adding a subtle visual highlight to the composition. The purple chains of the swing echoed my hair color seamlessly—a little detail we made sure to accentuate by framing the leading lines of the chains. The shoot was actually quite demanding, as I had to constantly hold that slightly relaxed yet coquettish expression. Over by the red brick wall, finding the best angle meant standing somewhat precariously on the ledge, but I took the plunge for the sake of good proportions. The sea of flowers was also teeming with tiny flying insects, so I had to hold perfectly still with a smile. The moment I saw the final photos, though, every bit of effort felt entirely worth it.
In terms of posing, I drew inspiration from Japanese-style maiden portrait collections—touching the brim of the straw hat, caressing petals, or sitting effortlessly on the swing. The photographer understood the mood I envisioned right away, using a wide aperture to melt the blooming backdrop into soft bokeh while keeping the focus crisply on the subject. We used very few props—mainly the straw hat and the swing—relying instead on body language and scenery to enrich each frame. The wide brim of the hat not only shielded the sun but also balanced head-to-shoulder proportions. Overall, this felt less like a conventional cosplay shoot and more like a warm summer daydream. While purple hair stands out sharply in daily life, it looked remarkably harmonious amidst the colorful blossoms. Given the chance, I would love to explore even more casual looks for Gokou Ruri in the future.
