Putting on this white and blue magician outfit, holding the staff and magic book, and stepping under the spotlight, the atmospheric vibe unique to the character Wuthering Waves Phoebe naturally unfolded. The color palette of this outfit is very clean, featuring large areas of white accented with royal blue patches, complemented by a black-and-gold neckline and ribbons. The overall visual presents both classical solemnity and a strong element of anime cosplay magic. The wide-brimmed white hat on the head paired with long golden hair, adorned with a blue cross hair clip, can be said to be the soul of this look.
The studio set arrangement during the shoot was also highly detailed, with blue and white withered branches on all sides, golden picture frames, a pure white angel sculpture, and white tulle casually draping in the background, together constructing a reading space that is both mysterious and pure. Choosing such an environment as the shooting location perfectly echoed the scholarly temperament of the character accompanied by books and magical items. The heavy magic book held in my hands and that long-handled staff look high-textured on the surface, but they actually carry quite a bit of weight in hand, especially when holding a few frozen poses, which really tests the extension and endurance of the arms.
In front of the lens, posture guidance is extremely important. Rather than just standing simply, I preferred incorporating some natural movements combined with the scene. For example, sitting sideways on a white fabric sofa, the placement of the legs could beautifully display the sheen of the white stockings and the extension of the leg lines. The white tights worn this time had moderate opacity; under the studio's high-contrast side-backlight, they formed a soft highlight transition at the knees and ankles, which is also a visual highlight of the entire photo set that I am very satisfied with.
In order to present the character's pure and ethereal feeling, I also made targeted adjustments to facial expression management. Unlike some very cool and fierce warrior characters, Phoebe's temperament leans more towards gentle and intellectual. Therefore, whether cradling the book or looking directly at the camera, I would intentionally relax my facial muscles, keep my gaze clear, and wear a faint, trace of a smile on my lips, so that the captured emotion fits the character's setting better.
The staff, magic book, as well as the tassels and metal rings on the costume, all displayed a wonderful sense of layer after being captured by Master Nana's lens. During the shooting process, we also tried several different camera angles, such as shooting the character reading from a slightly high angle, or shooting the staff-holding pose from an eye-level angle. This multi-angle exploration makes the final photos look richer and more three-dimensional, rather than being confined to just a simple set of static, standing poses.
Additionally, the light and shadow atmosphere in this set of photos is truly the highlight. The light comes directly from the top-side, forming a very distinct yet soft rim light, which dyes the golden hair strands and the white hat brim with a thin layer of gold. This warm light and shadow effect counteracts the coldness brought by the large areas of blue and white in the frame, adding a touch of tranquility and intimacy belonging to an afternoon reading room to the entire photograph.
As a complete cosplay shooting experience, it is actually not just a presentation of clothes and props, but an understanding and concretization of the character's inner core. From conceptualizing actions and communicating camera angles with the photographer, to the final selection and editing of photos, every step was an effort to recreate that exact feeling this image evokes in players' hearts. The collaboration with Master Nana this time was highly efficient, and we found the most suitable shooting solution for this outfit in a very short amount of time. The texture of the final photos also largely benefited from this tacit pre-shoot communication.
