I originally planned to head to the seaside for a dreamlike blockbuster shoot of the bioluminescent sea, but upon arriving, I found out that the blue tears were barely visible that day, which was a bit of a pity. However, since I brought all the gear out, I couldn't just go back empty-handed. Conveniently, there was an area of reefs and caves nearby; the environment was deep and dark, making it highly suitable as a venue for Night photography. Thus, I made a spontaneous decision to switch to this low-key night shoot. Changing into Furina's "Lily of the Valley Dance" outfit, I utilized a portable fill light as the sole light source to create an atmosphere of accidentally wandering into a dark, secret realm.
Night photography is actually a huge test of lighting and composition. In such a pitch-black scene, if a flash is fired straight on, the character will look flat, and the surrounding environment will turn completely dead black, losing any sense of layering. The fill light in my hand became the key prop. During the shoot, I intentionally kept the light close to my face or body to form rim highlights. This not only illuminated the character's facial features but also preserved the texture and shadows of the cave rocks, bringing out the overall light and shadow contrast. When taking these low-key photos, skin tone is the hardest to control; post-processing repeatedly adjusted the color temperature to strive for a translucent and clean frame.
This cosplay costume itself has plenty of details. Despite the low-light environment, the embroidery, pearl chains, and blue gauze skirt hem still beautifully presented their texture under the guidance of the light. The iconic blue streak and the ahoge on the wig also took a long time to style. To match the character's elegant yet slightly crisp personality, I experimented with low-angle shots holding a crown, kneeling while raising the light, and a lazy sitting pose. The photographer @Ocean was fantastic at catching angles, working hard to find camera positions inside the narrow cave—both to avoid the bumpy ground and to prevent the flash from cutting the shadows too harshly.
The final photos turned out beyond expectations. Although I didn't get to shoot the bioluminescent sea I had been longing for, this accidental Furina cosplay shoot left an even deeper impression. No matter how the environment changes, as long as there is light and ideas, one can always find an appropriate way to express creativity. Playing a character you love and embracing the unknowns and changes during the shooting process is inherently the most joyful part of Anime cosplay and Casual cosplay daily life. The finished pieces of this Lily of the Valley Dance set can be considered a beautiful compensation for this little regret.
