Tonight at Nanning Zhongshan Mixc, I challenged myself to recreate frames in the style of Yua from the J-drama "Tomorrow, I'll Be Someone's Girlfriend", specifically mimicking several storyboard compositions from the show. Putting on this light pink puff-sleeve top, paired with a black lace-trimmed and ruffled mini skirt, twin-tails tied with black bow ribbons, and finally accessorized with a cross rivet backpack and platform leather shoes, the sweet-cool vibe of subculture fashion was nailed perfectly.

The shoot mainly relied on a clip light turned on at night, using artificial light sources to outline the silhouette. Combined with the high ISO performance of the Canon R62 and the large aperture of the RF35 1.4, the moody atmosphere of the dim mall night scene was instantly maxed out. Although I was well prepared mentally, summer nights in Nanning are still incredibly sultry. After just a few sets, I was drenched in sweat and my makeup was a bit smudged, but luckily the rate of good shots was very high. Subway platforms, stair handrails, and capsule toy machines—these everyday street elements at Nanning photo spots became highly narrative under the lens.

This kind of storyboard mimicking the realistic style of Japanese dramas doesn't require overly dramatic poses; by utilizing the depth of the stairs and the geometric lines of the mall, a casual street vibe can be easily captured. This Canon camera combo delivers excellent low-light performance for Canon portrait photography, and the lighting approach is perfect for urban night shoots. Although it was exhausting due to the heat, I am super satisfied to leave a set of Yua cosplay photos with such a specific drama vibe in this city.
