[Gaia and Ryne Cosplay] Final Fantasy XIV — Self-Styled Personal Setting CP Convention Photos

We chose the CP31 anime convention to officially shoot our self-styled personal setting Gaia and Ryne cosplay from Final Fantasy XIV. For players who love the story of FF14, the dynamic between Gaia and Ryne has always been a deeply captivating part, and this time we decided to present their casual, everyday state through our own interpretation.

Regarding hair and makeup, for my part (the black-haired character), I chose a black leather jacket paired with an asymmetrical layered mesh skirt. The focal point was the combination of black fishnet tights and chunky platform heels, which not only visually elongated leg lines but also fit the character's slightly rebellious, cool-and-edgy vibe. I specifically selected a straight black wig with blunt bangs, trimming the layers to match her original aura. Meanwhile, my partner (the orange-haired character) brought a full sweet-style mix-and-match look: a pure white lace drawstring dress complemented by brown slouch socks and white block heels, blending subculture fashion elements together seamlessly. Delicate metal buckles and straps added an extra touch of refinement to her overall styling. We brought our own pink and purple foam props as interactive items during the shoot, which unexpectedly yielded amazing photos.

The setup at the convention hall also fit the vibe we were aiming for perfectly. A pink and purple anime-themed backdrop was filled with cute cartoon bees, twinkling heart symbols, and crisp geometric borders. Standing before such a colorful booth with props in hand, we struck playful poses together and even made a unique hand-heart gesture. The surrounding crowd and the characteristic hustle and bustle of the convention felt like the ultimate ambient backdrop, filling every frame with vivid vitality.

During breaks between shooting, we wandered around the venue, capturing a close-up selfie and a candid shot inside a car. In the car photo, the orange-haired girl chatted with me holding a tissue in hand under soft natural light from outside. We struck casual peace signs, fully capturing that relaxed post-convention mood, looking just like everyday snippets from a trip between close friends.

Although this was a "self-styled personal setting" rather than a 1:1 recreation of in-game equipment, we designed everything—from costume tailoring and color palettes to footwear and accessories—to center around the characters' core temperaments. The ultimate contrast between black and white, and the balance of sweetness and cool edge, represented another creative possibility for them in our minds. Moreover, this subculture fashion outfit balanced visual impact with comfort; even though standing and shooting for hours at the booth made our feet tired, seeing the final results on camera made every moment worth it.

Regarding makeup details, I chose a clean matte finish for the base. Eye makeup emphasized winged eyeliner and curled lashes, paired with contact lens styling to make the gaze look deeper. The lip color was a reddish-brown tone that echoed the black leather jacket and hair, adding a stylish edge. Under convention spotlights, the leather sheen of the black jacket contrasted richly with the frayed raw edges of the underlying mesh skirt. While adjusting lighting angles and gaze directions, we paid careful attention to controlling facial shadows, striving for every frozen frame to accurately capture both costume contours and character aura.

Teaming up with my partner this time felt incredibly seamless; many poses required just a single look to lock into sync. A huge part of the joy at an anime convention comes from doing what you love with people you care about while infusing your own aesthetic vision into 2D characters. Looking at those moments frozen in the camera, I could feel that pure, fulfilling happiness—which is truly the greatest meaning of gathering at CP31.
