This Komeiji Satori cosplay outfit's core lies in the use of fan-made (secondary setting) elements and the balance of overall colors. When I first encountered Touhou Project, Komeiji Satori left a very deep impression on me. This time, choosing to shoot a secondary setting version instead of strictly following the original illustration was mainly to allow the styling to incorporate more dreamy and romantic elements while preserving Satori's characteristics.
First, speaking of the hairstyle and head ornaments, I chose light pink chin-length short hair. The fluffy, slightly curled effect paired with the white lace headbands on both sides largely toned down the somewhat heavy feeling of the original design. The bright yellow fluffy balls on both sides of the head are highlights I specifically added, which perfectly echo the fluffy balls at the ankles, giving the entire styling a connected, unified feel visually from top to bottom.
For the clothing, I chose a light blue and white striped off-shoulder top paired with exaggerated bell-shaped sleeves. The lace and fluffiness along the edges fit perfectly with the subculture fashion aesthetic. This off-shoulder design can visually showcase the collarbone and necklines, enhancing the breathability of the photos. The white multi-layered ruffle puff skirt on the lower half has rich layers, and when paired with white tights, it beautifully displays the leg curves in the photos. Combined with the yellow fluffy balls at the ankles and white lace short socks, it has both the charm of a young girl and a bit of mysterious fantasy fairytale style.
The most eye-catching part of the entire look is definitely the red big-eye-themed accessory at the waist. In the original setting, Satori's third eye is where her soul resides. In this secondary setting version, to increase visual interest, the eye was made into a three-dimensional waist bag effect with a smooth surface and great texture. Yellow, orange, and white braided three-strand hanging ropes extend from the eye, draping naturally on both sides of the body. These ropes not only enhance the fluid feel of the look but also guide the visual focus through the extension of the ropes during shooting.
In terms of shooting techniques, I chose a mirror selfie. The background is a bright, simple indoor environment, and through the blur effect of a large aperture, the background appears soft, pulling the visual center of gravity completely back to the person. The post-processing preserved that hazy, high-exposure filter effect, creating a contrast between the originally vibrant red eye accessory and the elegant blue-and-white striped clothes, creating a dreamy, ethereal \"soft-focus glow\" which echoes the vibe of dreamy girl photography. As both the photographer and coser, although this costume looks very complex visually, it is actually quite easy to put on and take off. The main difficulty lies in preventing those long braided ropes from being stepped on when walking. I adjusted my standing posture slightly to let the ropes fall naturally, which created a very nice composition.
For the eye makeup and facial treatment, I did not choose overly exaggerated Anime cosplay makeup, but rather a clean, natural style. Paired with the pink wig and clothing, it allowed me to get closer to the gentle, quiet atmosphere of the secondary setting. In fact, every time I shoot an Anime cosplay with such strong thematic symbols, the most interesting part is how to add my personal aesthetic and understanding without straying from the basic setting. This time, using the bright yellow fluffy balls and the red eye as color springboards broke the monotony of traditional blue, white, and pink, giving the overall styling a touch of playfulness and dark fairytale flavor under its fresh appearance. The shooting process went very smoothly. Although the mirror selfie doesn't show the full face, showcasing the mystery of this styling through body language and clothing details actually works better. Sharing this set of photos is also to record a brand-new visual interpretation of the Komeiji Satori character under the framework of Touhou Project secondary settings.
