For this Halloween cosplay shoot of Rem cosplay, I chose a black reflective leather mini-dress paired with an oversized witch hat. Prior to shooting, a red trident and several Jack-o'-lanterns were specially prepared as props. Together with the vintage green leather sofa and the dark bookshelves in the background, the overall tone of the image was kept dark and moody, relying on the bright orange glow of the Jack-o'-lanterns to highlight the scene. The camera used for this Canon portrait photography was a Canon EOS R6 Mark II with an RF35mm F1.8 lens. This focal length is versatile in small indoor spaces, establishing the bookshelf setting while capturing detailed leg lines.
In the first photo, the front high leg-lift gesture combined with a half-covered face and tall boots was mainly intended to express a playful yet mysterious side of the character. The second photo captured a glance back over the shoulder; this angle beautifully showcased the open-back design and the details of the wings, rendering authentic skin texture under indoor lighting while the bookshelves behind provided great depth of field. The third photo featured a side-seated pose, holding a Jack-o'-lantern with both hands and resting bare feet on the sofa edge—wearing only a leg garter without shoes—to naturally display leg lines. To prevent messy, distracting highlights on the black leather dress, the photographer and I repeatedly adjusted light positions to keep reflections within a controlled range, rendering a sleek, cool luster.
To suit the Halloween vibe, a light blue wig was meticulously styled to avoid being crushed by the large hat. The set was arranged in a relatively compact study room, incorporating bookshelves, the green sofa, pumpkin string lights, and spiderwebs to create a sense of mystery. Finding the right angles on the sofa took considerable time, particularly balancing the folds of the skirt with the positioning of the leg garter. In post-processing, adjustments focused mainly on light-to-dark contrast, preserving a vintage cinematic color grade while accentuating environmental vignettes and shadow tones, keeping the leather dress's luster and skin textures intact.
The overall shooting process went very smoothly; the EOS R6 Mark II paired with the 35mm lens performed admirably in the dim indoor environment, delivering pleasing bokeh with its wide aperture. As a themed endeavor, this Halloween cosplay experience featuring Rem cosplay from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- was exceptionally fulfilling. In particular, capturing contrasting feelings between wielding the red trident and cuddling the pumpkin allowed the final photos to perfectly meet expectations.
