The goal of this shoot was very clear: to bring out that aura of Yoshizawa Kasumi in Persona 5 that sits right between coolness and playfulness. For the costume, I specially chose a highly glossy black leather material, paired with red gloves and a metal chain rose decoration at the waist, staying as close as possible to the design details of the original work. Managing the wig also took a lot of effort; the parting of the bangs and the height of the ponytail needed repeated adjustments to capture a sense of movement, since in the game, this character's hairstyle itself is part of her personality.
The photographer's lighting setup was highly sophisticated. The pure red backdrop created a strong color contrast between the black outfit and the red hair, which not only preserved the character's own visual symbols but also gave the frames a cinematic quality. For the first pose holding the sword, I deliberately lowered my center of gravity, using a two-handed horizontal grip to emphasize the lines of the blade while staring straight into the lens, attempting to convey that 'never back down' focus of the character during battle. The second shot of waving the blue ribbon was meant to capture some lightness and fluidity, but during the actual shoot, to control the ribbon's trajectory, I had to repeat the swinging motion so many times that my arm muscles became quite sore.
The charm of Yoshizawa Kasumi lies in her combination of a detective's calm analysis and an action-driven resolve that loses to no one, so in my performance, I needed to balance both elegance and decisiveness. The tailoring of the leather jacket actually placed certain restrictions on shoulder and waist movements, but to accurately recreate the character's look for this Leather cosplay experience, these trade-offs in details were entirely worth it. Every time I shoot such a well-defined character, it allows me to deeply understand the story behind the character rather than just putting on a suit of clothes. The photographer is excellent at capturing this tension within stillness; the sharp and firm feeling in the final photos truly fits the Yoshizawa Kasumi in my heart. The setting and props for this session were fully prepared, and the on-site communication was very smooth, making the overall experience highly pleasant as a piece of efficient and high-yield Persona 5 cosplay photography.
