After wrapping up this Zenless Zone Zero Ju Fufu outdoor shoot, my legs were instantly covered in over a dozen mosquito bites. When testing whether a tiger can beat mosquitoes, the results were unfortunately clear: the tiger just ends up getting bitten even worse. Even with giant ears and a long tail, there was no stopping these greedy little flying insects.
This Ju Fufu costume is packed with design details, with an immense amount of effort put into just the headpiece and wig alone. The tiger ears feature the classic black rim with white inner fur, and the fluff at the base is remarkably realistic—wearing them instantly brings out the soul of a Kemonomimi girl. The bright yellow wig has neat straight bangs and well-defined layers, interspersed with brownish-black tiger stripe highlights. Combined with green contact lenses, it perfectly brings out that lively yet subtly wild persona of the character.
The overall outfit is dominated by black, yellow, and gray. The top is a cropped bright yellow biker-style jacket with black trim and white accent lines, while black mechanical armor pieces are mounted on the shoulders and outer arms. These attachments make the look not just cute, but also infuse a touch of hardcore combat readiness. Underneath is a well-fitted gray shirt with a crisp collar, paired with a wooden ID badge hanging on the chest, capturing every detail accurately.
For the location, I specifically picked an outdoor courtyard with bamboo groves and stone steps. The sunlight filtering through the bamboo cast beautiful dappled shadows, providing much clearer natural light than typical studio lighting. The shot sitting cross-legged on the stone bench showcases the tiger-head belt buckle and the credentials on the front of the outfit nicely. And of course, the massive plush tail in the back is unforgettable—its three-stage yellow, white, and black gradient is densely fluffed, swaying lightly with movement and adding genuine vitality to the character alongside the poses.
As for props, the yellow mechanical gun has a solid, textured feel, and its mechanical structure design echoes the armor accents on the outfit seamlessly. The single-leg standing pose with the gun in the third photo was actually a real test of balance; due to the tail's size and weight, I had to lean slightly forward to stay steady. The prop gun felt comfortable to hold, making the overall posture look much more upright and crisp.
The makeup featured natural orange-toned eyeshadow and lively lip color, radiating vitality under natural light. Black athletic shorts paired with thigh straps accent the leg lines, creating a well-balanced silhouette. On the feet, canvas sneakers with blue soles and yellow accents add a casual, athletic touch that aligns closely with the character's energetic design.
However, the real struggle of outdoor shooting was undeniably the insects. Swarms of small bugs hovered around the bamboo and stone steps. While trying to capture the best angles, exposed skin became their primary target, and not even generous amounts of repellent could keep them away. Although I am frantically scratching mosquito bites right now, placing this outfit in an authentic natural environment to capture that wild yet playful atmosphere felt much freer and more dynamic than a studio shoot. From outfit styling and wig sculpting to prop coordination, a lot of thought went into every single detail of this look.
