Ever since summer arrived, I've wanted to do a shoot with a light, breezy, and transparent feel. This time, I chose an infinity pool as the main setting to recreate the casual vacation vibe of Kafka from Honkai: Star Rail. Unlike the usual studio shoots that emphasize her sharp and intimidating aura, this set focused on capturing the character's relaxed ease under the sunshine. At first, I worried that the intense poolside highlights might make the wig and skin tone appear unnatural, but the actual result was surprisingly fantastic—sunlight diffused off the water's surface, illuminating facial shadows very evenly. The wig was custom-dyed in a magenta tone, with a few wispy strands styled along the sides to frame the face. To maintain a natural drape, I avoided heavy hairspray before the shoot, only applying waterproof treatment to the roots of the bangs so they stayed lightweight even when submerged.

For the Swimsuit cosplay, I picked a minimalist black swimsuit with a sleek, body-hugging cut. The halter design perfectly accentuated the neckline and shoulders. Since Kafka naturally exudes maturity and sophistication, such simple swimwear emphasized an elegant, effortless beauty. To convey her signature nonchalant demeanor, I didn't force rigid posing—mostly resting against the stone pool ledge, gently turning my head or placing a hand on my shoulder, letting every expression flow naturally. Water buoyancy makes body control tricky, so I had to be very mindful of the ripples caused by subtle movements to avoid disrupting the surface reflections.

In terms of Cosplay photography composition, the photographer introduced dynamic tilted angles, utilizing the water, stainless steel pool ladder, and distant mountains to add depth and layering to the visual field. To preserve the soft texture of a high-key outdoor shoot, we mainly relied on natural light in the early afternoon, using the directional sunlight to shape rim lighting along the contours of the body. Water droplets on my arms and collarbones caught the light beautifully, making the skin look dewy and supple. Although soaking in the water for quite a while inevitably dampened the ends of the wig, it actually added a touch of genuine realism rather than looking stiff and overly posed.

When it came to details, the delicate beaded bracelet and rings were subtle finishing touches, producing tiny sparkling highlights under the sun. For makeup, I maintained depth around the eyes while dialing back overall saturation to prevent it from looking overly heavy in intense sunlight. The layering of the wig shone even better against backlighting, with each strand glowing softly.

This shoot truly demanded immense patience. The stone ledge was scorching under the sun, and maintaining consistent quality while avoiding awkward framing meant constantly adjusting my positioning and angles. To ensure the best shots, the crew continuously smoothed out water ripples and helped me fine-tune poses to align with the shifting sunlight. To achieve a bright and airy look, the camera exposure was set slightly high, making the highlights soft and slightly washed out—which unexpectedly matched the intense visual aesthetic of summer. The light bouncing off the water illuminated facial contours crisply, requiring virtually no facial reshaping in post-production. For fans of Honkai: Star Rail, seeing a vibrant, everyday side of a character is often far more captivating than rigid combat poses, so we intentionally toned down the heavy sense of destiny in favor of summer tranquility. While the finished images look effortless and relaxing, substantial effort went into sun protection, waterproofing, and visual coherence. In the end, the final result made every bit of hard work worthwhile.
