Standing in front of the camera wearing this Twilight Blossom costume, my first feeling was that I finally managed to complete this shoot during the Lantern Rite. This attire adds starry sky and flowing cloud textures on top of the original design. The physical outfit carries more weight in hand than imagined, especially the deep sea blue of the skirt hem, which features faint, shimmering glitters under natural light.
Let's first chat about the restoration of the wig and styling. This time, I chose light blue toned hair fibers. To create a naturally fluffy curl, I used quite a bit of hair wax during styling to secure the flow of the strands, especially the treatment of the bangs and sideburns, which needed to coordinate properly with the placement of the hair accessories. The golden flower ornaments on the head and the red-and-black horns actually carry quite a bit of weight themselves, so I had to carefully adjust the center of gravity when wearing them, or else they could easily slip off. Fortunately, the final securing result was quite ideal, without any tilting issues.
The layering of the costume on the body is relatively complex. The neckline and chest area of the upper body are spliced with semi-transparent black tulle material, relying on the inner support structure to prop up this sleeveless feel. To display the gradient blending effect of the starry sky and flowing cloud textures, corresponding color schemes were also applied to the arm sleeves—transitioning from deep blue to blackish-gray, keeping uniform with the overall deep sea blue main tone. The golden belt and diamond-shaped hanging ornaments at the waist serve to tighten the waistline, making the body contour closer to the character's temperament.
The leg rings on the lower half and that pair of black shoes with blue bows on the feet are also key highlights of this cosplay costume. The silver hollowed patterns and golden loops of the leg rings beautifully concentrate the visual focus on the lines of the legs, and the draping feel of the chains and red strings also adds an airy flow during movements. Throughout the costume production and fitting process, I repeatedly adjusted the grip position of the prop round fan in front of the mirror several times. This round fan's material is relatively rigid, featuring golden piping on the edges, with white flower branches painted on the fan face; holding it in hand serves as both a decoration and a prop to extend hand movements.
In terms of shooting techniques, the photographer is relatively skilled at utilizing indoor studio and outdoor ambient light to highlight garment textures. This time, a semi-open corridor area of a shopping mall was chosen for the shoot, with glass showcases and striped illumination lights in the background. Utilizing the shallow depth of field effect of a large-aperture lens, the background was blurred out, making the entire character subject stand out vividly in the frame. While posing, I consciously looked for reflection points where the light fell on the round fan, metal borders, and fabric. In several sets of standing shots, I tried dynamic postures like raising the fan with one hand, holding the fan with both hands, and opening my arms, letting the tassels of the round fan and the long red tassels at the waist float with the movements, increasing the dynamic feel of the frame.
The final set of kneeling poses was a spontaneous idea, having the staff spread a white plush carpet on the ground. The lens angle for the kneeling posture is lower, which can display a relatively soft emotion; combined with the hand-on-cheek gesture, I hoped to convey the character's gentle and introverted side. Overall, the shooting process went very smoothly, and the final photos indeed recreated that lantern-lit yet warm atmosphere of the Lantern Rite. I kept the makeup as clear and natural as possible this time, heavily highlighting the color harmony between the eye makeup and the purple eyes without drawing overly exaggerated eyeshadow, hoping the presented effect would be relatively fresh and authentic. The integration of light, shadow, costume texture, and character demeanor is precisely the core I pursued in this creation.
