When I took this set of photos, I was on-site at the Zhiyun Shanghai new product launch event, appearing as the HMS Royal little idol, Unicorn. The press conference venue was different from ordinary anime convention venues; the lighting was complex, and the seats were pink-toned padded chairs, but the overall atmosphere was quite suitable for shooting. To preserve the dynamic feel of the event and the sweet, innocent nature of the character, the photographer and I worked together to complete this snapshot session using the small but interesting seating area.

The venue environment was relatively dark, so recreating the character's dreamy effect was not easy. We adjusted the brightness of the Zhiyun fill light to a moderate level and softened the light quality, which not only illuminated the character but also blended beautifully with the complex ambient light on-site.

The equipment used for this shoot was a Nikon Z5II, switching lenses between 35mm and 85mm. The 85mm lens has a massive advantage for shooting half-body close-ups in crowds, as the spatial compression brought by the focal length makes the frame cleaner. With the Zhiyun fill light as the main light source, both skin tones and the fabric texture of the white dress were beautifully presented without harsh color patches.

Little Unicorn's outfit is packed with details. The edges of the white skirt hem feature cascading lace trims, the light purple-blue long hair transitions naturally, and the head is adorned with uniquely styled hair accessories. Combined with white gloves, white stockings with geometric lines, and high heels, these details required a clean lighting setup to shine through. Although the venue was crowded and noisy, because it was a candid on-the-spot capture, we instead caught several extremely natural and slightly playful moments through this Cosplay photography session.

Since we were shooting in the seating area of the press conference, I could only try sitting or half-standing postures most of the time. Coordinating the angles with the height difference of the seatbacks, the extended lines of the legs could sometimes pull out an excellent sense of visual extension, preventing the frame from looking rigid and adding a touch of stage presence.

This time, we couldn't spread out over a large area like we usually do at conventions. We relied more on leaning against the seats and using different poses to interact with the on-site lighting. Although the chairs were pink padded cushions, they unexpectedly matched the character's pure white, refreshing color palette without feeling out of place. Once the light angles were set, the shooting pace was actually very fast, often requiring us to capture the most appropriate shutter click in the gaps between the crowd.

The real-time tracking autofocus of the Nikon Z5II was highly reliable, and the Sigma 85mm lens's resolving power provided incredibly stable support in this environment with complex lighting and a slightly cluttered background. Precise control of the white balance ensured that when the lights hit the white dress, there was no obvious color deviation, preserving the intended visual atmosphere.

Although it wasn't a dedicated studio photoshoot, these press conference snapshots with a live presence instead gave the character a touch of agile and real aura. Combining the character's setting with the stage feel of the venue, allowing the idol presence to flow naturally, was my favorite part of this cosplay shoot. The Zhiyun fill light is highly handy as a portable lighting tool in multi-person settings, eating light evenly so it won't overexpose the arms or clothing due to being too close to the lamp. The purple-blue of the hair and the white of the dress were rendered very softly and naturally under this lighting.
