Shooting this Christmas-themed Rem cosplay from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- at the Ivory Tower studio left a profound impression on me throughout the entire process. Because we didn't rely on complex outdoor settings and depended entirely on the meticulous studio set design to create this rich holiday ambiance, it was a rigorous test of costume textures and lighting coordination. The dark red wall in the backdrop is a challenging color to shoot, as it easily leads to heavy ambient color casts; however, photographer Yaomei handled this masterfully using a telephoto lens and local fill lighting, creating a gorgeous contrast between the white outfit and the red background.
The white off-the-shoulder plush outfit I wore had quite a voluminous silhouette—very comfortable to wear, but easily appearing bulky. To balance this, it was paired with Pink over-the-knee socks, while I repeatedly adjusted the angles of my thighs and shoulders during the shoot to bring out Rem's signature blend of delicate cuteness and subtle allure. The golden bell hanging across the chest chimed softly with every movement, which actually helped me gauge the scale of my body motions—a rather fun and handy prop.
As for that classic sentiment, 'If true love has a color,' amidst the studio's red backdrop, we experimented with numerous spontaneous poses. For example, during seated poses, I needed the side of my calves to lean naturally toward the edge of the frame while slightly tilting my upper body forward; when shooting lying-down poses, I had to watch out for flattened wigs and ensure the lighting didn't distort the leg contours. While these details were meticulous, they truly tested our seamless coordination. The studio was fully equipped with Christmas props, such as a vintage printed armchair, a faux snow-covered tree adorned with red ornaments, and textured haystacks and gift boxes. They filled the midground and foreground beautifully, elevating the overall visual depth of this Studio documentary photography set.
Overall, this was a creative endeavor closely merging the character's innate cuteness with the heartwarming festive ambiance of Christmas, while the photographer's attention to detail guaranteed the high quality of the final photos. Deliberately trying out standing and kneeling angles different from past shoots gave me a fresh perspective on this Christmas style cosplay. Seeing the finished results made every bit of that day's effort completely worthwhile—a truly fantastic and rewarding experience.
