The theme of this shoot is swimsuit Rem, inspired by the classic quote "if true love has a color." To fit the summer pool atmosphere, a blue-and-white striped sailor-style swimsuit was chosen for the outfit, paired with a semi-transparent mesh sun-protection outerwear on the outside. This not only continues Rem's signature blue and white color scheme but also adds some visual layers of water ripple transparency. The yellow tie and the yellow scrunchie on the wrist serve as highly vibrant contrasting accents, preventing the overall blue base tone from looking dull. Since Rem's original outfit features many asymmetrical and detailed designs, this summer swimwear was slightly simplified to suit water activities, but the core sailor suit elements are beautifully preserved.

Setting the shooting location at an outdoor pool was actually quite a test for the hair and makeup. To present that translucent texture under the sun, the wig was meticulously styled, ensuring the lightweight bangs and the signature ribbon hair accessory on the side were securely fixed. Even while soaking in the water in a swimsuit, it maintained the character's cute recognizability. Considering that the hair would get heavy when wet, extra layers of clips were used to secure the wig so it wouldn't shift when moving around, making the photoshoot process much smoother.

The reflection of the ripples when entering the water was truly beautiful. Especially sitting inside a half-meter-thick striped swim ring, the sunlight hit the water's surface to form sheets of sparkling ripples, which combined with this semi-transparent outfit to look highly clear visually. This kind of ambient light is actually hard for a photographer to grasp because the water's reflection is strong and prone to overexposure. However, we tried high-angle and side-angle shots, making great use of the water's refraction to capture the character's skin and costume texture softly. Controlling one's posture in the water is actually quite difficult due to buoyancy, so most of the time it relied on the core/waist to stabilize the center of gravity.

Since the clothing fabric is quite lightweight and thin, it sticks to the skin once wet, heavily testing the photographer's ability to control the set—balancing the capture of a natural and relaxed sense of interaction while avoiding a messy look. We shot several sets of scenes in the water, where the body lines beneath the surface were partially visible through the refraction of the ripples. The entire process felt exactly like actually playing in the water during a hot summer, without any forced affectation. Because the wig and clothes soaked up water, their weight increased significantly, requiring a bit of tidying up during every scene transition or direction adjustment.

I really love this daily-life, immersive style of shooting. Rather than staring intently at the lens, I hoped to showcase the character's lazy yet playful atmosphere by the summer poolside. Outdoor shooting actually has very harsh light, but with the help of water reflections and reflector boards, the skin texture came out looking highly delicate, and the makeup looked very clean and natural under the sun. Soaking in the pool for most of the day was indeed quite exhausting because the water has resistance, making movement much more laborious than on land. However, looking at the cool feeling in the final photos, it felt like everything was completely worth it. Going to play in the water in this kind of outfit during the summer—even without holding her iconic morning star or showing that Oni-race tsundere vibe—this version of Rem has a unique charm of her own. After all, being able to restore the character's temperament while integrating into the current environment is the most joyful part of the hobby. I also feel that only by immersing oneself in the character's personality to interact can one capture that vivid sense of her truly playing in the water through Anime-style photography.
