[Firefly cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: Capturing the Dynamic Cyan-Blue Charm in Anime convention photos

For these Anime convention photos, I mainly wanted to record the dynamic motion of this costume. The silver-white wig's gradient to cyan-blue transitioned very naturally under the camera, paired with a black headband and teal feather ornaments for satisfying character fidelity. The off-the-shoulder costume design is accented with white lace ruffles, and the neckline details are delicately tailored, while the inner corset structure visually slims the silhouette. The most labor-intensive component was the petal-shaped cyan-blue sheer tulle across the skirt; the fabric has a subtle sheen that creates a pearlescent luster under bright lighting. Each yellow gradient and translucent texture was hand-adjusted, layering over the pure white lining fabric to form distinct, rich depth. From a high-angle overhead view, the skirt flares naturally while the veil flutters across a wide area, opening up the overall visual focus.

On the day of the shoot, the studio lighting was quite complex; high-powered strobes firing down, coupled with ambient reflections off the dark grey concrete floor, posed high demands on light capture and exposure control. While this industrial setting looks a bit cluttered, it highlights the raw, authentic presence of live Anime convention photos. Much of Convention photography tests the seamless chemistry between photographer and cosplayer in motion—such as the exact second the veil billows or the angle at which the skirt lifts, which required repeated attempts. The semi-translucent white veil is very prone to messing up, fluttering everywhere with the slightest breeze. Before shooting, we secured its folds with invisible clips to ensure it wouldn't tangle with the wig while floating. My collaboration with the photographer was very smooth; after testing a few angles, we quickly locked into the perfect timing for flipping the veil, which, paired with natural arm extensions, gave the frame an airy, dynamic grace.

For makeup, I chose a clean, translucent base, emphasizing eye contours and lashes, paired with clear purple contact lenses to make the gaze look more spirited. Although the hairstyle looks like casual long straight hair, to maintain fullness at the crown and the curvature of the side bangs, a generous amount of hairspray and styling spray was used to reinforce it, preventing it from getting tousled by breezes in the studio. The forehead hairpieces were also repeatedly secured, staying in place without sliding during multiple turns.

Sharing this set of photos in this Cosplayer Sharing post is really about expressing an ambiance faithful to the character herself. Although the location was just a standard industrial-style studio with other people and cluttered equipment in the background, within the framed crop of the camera lens—through costume colors, the fluttering veil, and expansive body language—we could still convey that lively, spirited energy. If you have the chance to shoot Anime convention photos in similar venues later on, definitely try more high-angle perspectives; this framing makes it so easy to showcase the layered skirt and extended lines of the veil. In post-processing, I preserved the raw texture as much as possible, only adding subtle airborne white light particles to elevate the dreamy quality, completing the frame without losing the vivid life that live photos should possess.
