This formal Castorice cosplay photoshoot from Honkai: Star Rail took quite a long time to prepare. To align seamlessly with the Butterflies Love Flowers theme, we went through considerable effort, from costume, prop, and makeup preparation to scouting the ideal location.
The costume's details are intricate: the lace trim, crisscross lacing, and purple ribbon bows across the bodice all required meticulous adjustments during fitting. The outer white dress is rich with ruffled tiers, while the inner layer features a deep purple patterned skirt, creating beautiful depth and dimension in motion. To harmonize with the overall color palette, I deliberately paired it with long white gloves and White stockings, which achieved exquisite texture under the nighttime illumination. The wig was layered with care, complemented by a purple-grey gradient, elf ears, and a black crown headdress adorned with flowers and butterfly motifs, bringing high visual completion to the overall look in this cosplay.
In terms of props, the massive scythe was undeniably the centerpiece of the scene. The physical prop is extremely heavy; wielding it for poses required core strength to maintain balance. The scythe's white shaft and the purple-pink gradient blade were striking under the lights, and the orb ornament in the center was intricately painted. There was also a butterfly-themed staff that was comparatively lighter, allowing for more expansive and graceful postures. The sea of flowers was set in the countryside, where the color temperature between daytime and dusk shifted dramatically. In natural lighting conditions like Photos 1 and 6, the colors of the blossoms remained soft. Come nighttime, to suppress the dark background and make the subject pop, we utilized high-powered strobes for frontal fill lighting. Amidst the pitch-black surroundings, the lights shone across the flower field, making the purple petals gleam with a faint, mystical glow that echoed the costume gorgeously.
Shooting at night severely tests stamina and patience. Insects buzzed throughout the flower bushes, and finding balance in high heels amidst the soil and flower stems was challenging. Capturing dynamic swings of the scythe required precise timing—ensuring powerful movements while preventing the blade from striking adjacent floral branches. To showcase multifaceted aesthetic beauty across the sea of blossoms, we explored standing, half-kneeling, and dynamic slashing postures. Under intense nighttime flashes, the White stockings and white skirt layers were prone to overexposure, demanding continuous fine-tuning of flash output and camera exposure settings.
This set includes serene close-ups holding bouquets as well as dynamic action snapshots wielding the giant scythe. Personally, I especially love the full-body standing composition in Photo 4: the proportions and prop presentation are comprehensive, while the intricate details of the White stockings and skirt tiers are preserved crisply. Though the process was arduous, seeing the chiaroscuro texture and garment craftsmanship come alive in the final cuts makes every effort worthwhile.
