Shooting this 'Spring Souvenir' theme for Firefly cosplay in Honkai: Star Rail involved meticulous fine-tuning from early wardrobe coordination to the final images. To harmonize with the breezy, everyday spring ambiance of the theme, considerable thought was poured into outfit selection. The top features a classic sailor uniform silhouette, pairing a crisp white body with grey collar and cuff trims for a clean, refreshing look. The chest ribbon bow accented with blue-and-gold elements is the standout highlight of the ensemble; to keep its shape structured and crisp, the ribbons were ironed and set beforehand. Golden embroidery on the sleeves and golden buttons on the front elevated the refined quality of the costume. As for the wig, the silver-grey base with mint-green gradient tips required patient combing and styling strand by strand—especially layering the bangs and face-framing sideburns to flatter the facial silhouette, which, paired with the blue cross-patterned hair accessories, gave the entire hairstyle a dimensional, sculptural presence in this Game cosplay.
For the lower half, I paired it with a grey-and-black pleated plaid skirt, whose length and sharp pleats were carefully calibrated. Opting for White stockings paired with glossy black leather loafers forged a classic black-and-white harmony. This not only flattered the leg contours, but also faithfully brought out the 2D aesthetic texture. Carrying a glossy black oversized tote bag as a prop added rich authenticity to the casual, slice-of-life setting.
The outdoor lighting on the day of the shoot was ample and bright. To capture peak performance, we experimented with diverse compositions across multiple locations. The first set of photos took place on the entrance steps, using the doorframe as a foreground element for a balanced, centered composition. Gently tucking a strand of hair behind my ear with one hand while holding the bag and leaning slightly forward brought an effortless, lively vitality to the shot. The second set moved to a staircase flanked by European-style architecture, utilizing the stairs' vanishing lines to deepen spatial perspective; turning back with a three-quarter silhouette beautifully accentuated the side lines of the outfit and the visual charm of the White stockings. The photographer guided me to tilt my chin up slightly and gaze into the lens, freezing a narrative-rich, evocative instant. The third set took place along a commercial pedestrian promenade lined with greenery and storefronts, where I tried a lighthearted salute paired with a bright smile, capturing a playful vibe that perfectly matched the brisk, cheerful theme of 'Spring Souvenir'.
Throughout the entire shoot, movements didn't need to be overly expansive; the essence lay in expressive glances and subtle hand coordination. To preserve the pristine drape of the skirt and White stockings, we smoothed out fabric creases and combed wig layers after every sequence. In color grading, we preserved the natural luminous clarity of daylight, rendering the skin tone translucent while emphasizing the vibrant contrast between blue-green and silver-white. The biggest concern for outdoor shooting is always the wind unsettling the wig, but thanks to ample styling spray applied beforehand, the final image quality achieved our ideal vision.
