Today I came to the lakeside to shoot this set of photos. The weather was very cooperative without harsh direct sunlight; gentle ripples shimmered across the lake, and the distant bridge and trees formed a perfectly serene backdrop. The details of this outfit are exceptionally rich: first is the blue-and-white mandarin collar with delicate gold edging, while the black plunging neckline beneath is spliced with white lace, enriching the layers while adding a touch of subtle charm. The shoulders feature an off-the-shoulder cut, with blue-to-purple gradient sheer puff sleeves on both sides that look remarkably translucent under natural light. The waist is accented with golden flying bird ornaments and a vivid pink flower. To complement this styling, I did plenty of prep work in advance, carefully combing and setting the wig while meticulously ironing the sheer gauze parts of the dress.
The wig is long, straight silver-gray hair with blunt bangs across the forehead, topped with a golden crescent-shaped hair crown flanked by dangling pink-and-white flowers and tassels. For the makeup, focus was placed heavily on the eye makeup, paired with light green colored contacts, hoping to recreate the character's inherently spirited aura. The circular fan held in hand was also specially prepared; the semi-transparent screen is printed with floral patterns and trimmed with draping tassels.
Sitting on the dark wooden railing, I tried several different postures. The first was sitting upright holding the fan and looking at the lens; the second was leaning sideways with my head slightly lowered, capturing a quiet and contemplative ambiance; the third was angling sideways gently to allow the lake view and green trees behind to blend into the frame harmoniously. For the lower body, it was paired with over-the-knee white lace Stockings, and the skirt features a multi-tiered pleated design where pink-and-purple gauze intertwines with white lace, creating a lovely flowing drape when walking.
Due to the many layers of the costume, the position of the skirt hem and sleeves required constant adjustment during shooting to ensure the frame looked orderly and layered. Even though holding the postures throughout was demanding, seeing the light, shadows, and garment details in the camera made all the preliminary prep work feel completely worthwhile. The occasional lakeside breeze fluttering through hair strands and skirt hems breathed natural vitality into the still photos. Outdoor shooting truly tests one's focus, demanding constant attention to facial expressions and limbs, yet this natural environment helped me immerse myself into the character's atmosphere much faster. Trying a style distinct from my daily routine gave me fresh insights into outfit styling and camera presence, and I look forward to encountering such comfortable shooting settings again in the future.
