Putting on this classic gear for Asuka Cosplay, I decided to move the shoot location to the place full of daily life vibe—the kitchen.
Compared to the usual tension of combat scenes in Neon Genesis Evangelion, this time I wanted to try presenting her with a sense of daily life. The light-colored wooden shelves, neatly arranged tableware, and kitchen utensils hanging on the wall form a warm background with a cozy touch of everyday life, creating an interesting visual contrast with the vivid red and green color scheme on Asuka.
For this look, I chose the iconic orange-red high twin-tails wig and specially used the red hair clips of the A10 nerve connector and a black eyepatch for accurate restoration, so that even in a daily setting, the character can be recognized at a glance. The makeup focuses on highlighting her bright eyes and her inherently tsundere and aloof temperament. The outfit features a classic white camisole paired with dark blue shorts, casually layered with a loose olive green jacket and white mid-calf socks, creating a casual and lazy "limited edition" home status.
For the poses and composition, I chose to sit on a stainless steel countertop with a metallic texture. This position with a slight height difference focuses the line of sight, while the dangling legs and casual chin-resting gesture break the original static feel of the frame. The lighting uses very soft natural light combined with indoor fill light, making the skin tone look translucent and giving the orange-red hair strands a delicate highlight transition. To fit the "Kitchen photoshoot" theme, I also intentionally included everyday props like a wooden knife block and cartoon-patterned oven mitts at the edges of the frame, striving to make the photos convey the character's living state in another parallel universe rather than just showcasing her appearance.
Every time I portray Asuka, I gain new insights into her complex inner world. Documenting her through such a relaxed 2D daily life perspective makes me feel that the character becomes more real and three-dimensional. I hope this kitchen photoshoot can bring everyone a different sense of freshness.
