[Asuka Cosplay] Neon Genesis Evangelion: Studio Photoshoot Record

Today, I completed this official Asuka Cosplay photoshoot at a Nanning photography studio (Xingman Movie Studio).

Stepping into the studio, the tatami mats, wooden bookshelves, vintage radio, and walls covered in black-and-white manga storyboards instantly dialed up the atmosphere. This Anime-style photography scene, rich in lived-in domestic charm, resonated perfectly with the character portrayed. To align with the character, I changed into the classic blue-green pinafore dress over a white collared shirt, tied a red ribbon bow, and wore white thigh-high Stockings accented with red stripes. The long reddish-orange straight hair and twin red hair clips were the core of the styling, while makeup emphasized the luminous clarity of the blue contacts, keeping the foundation clean to highlight youthful vitality.

Collaborating with photographer and retoucher Wudao Lingmeng was seamless. We communicated extensively regarding composition and pose direction. To showcase the character's personality, we didn't limit ourselves to conventional standing poses. For instance, in the shot lying back across the floor mat with legs raised and crossed, the overhead high-angle perspective beautifully elongated overall visual proportions, showcasing the fine textures of the white Stockings and leg lines completely—introducing a touch of sensual charm without losing that Anime-style photography lively energy. The series interacting with the teddy bear plushies—whether hugging the oversized bear in a striped sweater or leaning against the cabinet with a small bear—added abundant gap-moe contrast.

Throughout the shoot, I continuously adjusted my mood and gaze. Asuka has such a distinct personality, so I strove to maintain a confident, slightly stubborn, yet vibrant presence before the lens. Balancing sharp intensity in the eyes with relaxed body language was definitely quite the challenge. Props in the studio like the vintage camera, flip calendar, and miniature sailboat model all served as wonderful interactive objects.

The lighting on set leaned warm, casting a natural texture across the orange wig. The shoot lasted several hours; although switching poses was physically demanding, seeing the final photos made everything deeply worthwhile. Cosplay isn't merely wearing a character's attire; it's about channeling her state of being in a specific moment through expression and gesture. Creating art inside this detail-packed studio scene was a truly fulfilling experience. That wraps up today's share!
