The set of Navia cosplay Convention photos from the 7th Jinling Youth Culture Festival is finally fully retouched! This time I cosplayed Navia from Genshin Impact. To faithfully capture the splendor of this ensemble, extensive effort went into both the wardrobe and props. Especially that black-and-gold umbrella in hand—the ribs and fringed lace trimming along the edge were custom-crafted; although swinging it in the studio felt somewhat heavy, the photographic output was solidly stunning.
Regarding styling, the wig was cut with defined layers, accessorized with a black wide-brimmed hat accented by blue and yellow floral ornaments. For makeup, I specifically intensified the eye makeup to accentuate the striking visual impact of the blue eyes. The blue-and-gold colorway, the gemstone embellishments at the chest, and the metallic waist pieces were all recreated with meticulous precision. To elevate the overall visual dimension, the lower half was styled with Black stockings featuring lace hems and crisscross strap designs; paired with these boots, they not only elongated my leg lines but also harmonized perfectly with her capable yet graceful demeanor.
This shoot took place in a spacious, high-ceilinged industrial studio. The muted, clean gray backdrop served as the perfect canvas to make the bright yellow skirt hem and golden piping pop. In Photo 1, I slipped on sunglasses and pulled them down playfully for some fun interaction. The subsequent photos explored various poses: propping the umbrella with one leg lifted, crossing legs on a tall barstool, and sitting with the skirt fanned across a white faux-fur blanket. Posing with an umbrella truly tests your balance—especially in the dynamic second shot, which required a tight core to steady my center of gravity. Before the lens, I deliberately calibrated my shoulder angles and leg extensions; for instance, crossing my legs in a seated pose elegantly showcased the leg lines and texture of the Black stockings, a classic compositional technique in Anime-style photography.
When shooting these Convention photos, the lighting on set was rather intricate. Thankfully, the photographer mastered the light and shadows impeccably; side backlighting grazing the blonde hair and metallic accessories cast a glowing rim light that gave the subject rich, three-dimensional depth. As a cosplayer, preparing such prop-heavy, intricate characters is always an intense physical workout, yet the moment you see the finished images, every bit of hassle feels completely worthwhile. The studio lighting setup, hauling equipment, and constantly adjusting the umbrella's tilt on set all served to bring the final images closer to my vision.
Navia's costume design is remarkably exquisite, featuring abundant metal hardware alongside multi-tiered ruffled skirts. To ensure seamless wearability at the convention, I reinforced the interior with anti-slip silicone lining and waist-cinching structures. When walking, the yellow fabric along the hem drapes with exceptional flow. The photographer captured all these kinetic details during continuous shooting, which is why I cherish Convention photos so much—they freeze an authentic, living vitality. Meanwhile, posing in the studio allows for pinpoint control over lighting and body angles. For example, holding the umbrella slightly higher seamlessly aligns the brim's contour with the specular highlights across the face. These seemingly simple movements often require practicing in front of the mirror countless times prior to shooting.
The pace of conventions and studio shoots can be exhausting, yet immersing oneself in the character brings immense fulfillment. From costume fittings and prop assembly to every single shutter click on set, each represents an inseparable part of the creative journey in cosplay.
