This time shooting the "Sinking into the River of Lethe of the Living" theme for Ruan Mei from Honkai: Star Rail, from the early preparation to the final output, I enjoyed the entire process immensely. To accurately present Ruan Mei's cold yet gentle temperament, I put a lot of effort into the makeup and styling. The base makeup pursued cleanliness and translucency, and the eye makeup specifically chose greenish-teal contact lenses to echo the character's traits. The wig also received gradient streak processing, retaining black at the front and a hint of cyan at the ends, which, accented with lace hair ornaments, brought the overall feel to life.
In terms of clothing, this improved version design is truly full of details. The upper body features an off-the-shoulder white collar, paired with a pink bow and a green gemstone bow tie, while the hem uses spliced bright blue and dark blue velvet fabrics, with exquisite golden piping and white flower embroidery. The slit of the skirt is relatively high, so care must be taken to prevent wardrobe malfunctions when wearing it. The paired pearl leg ring is the finishing touch, perfectly refining the leg lines. For gloves, I prepared two sets: one set of white lace short gloves, and another set of dark blue over-the-elbow long gloves; the collision of different materials brings out different effects.
The scene arrangement was also a major highlight. To match the tranquil atmosphere of Lethe, the background featured a huge circular glowing moon lamp, decorated with white artificial flower branches resembling cherry blossoms or plum blossoms, paired with dark solid wood Chinese-style furniture and semi-transparent sheer curtains with calligraphy, creating a Neo-Chinese fantasy feel. The ground was covered with a thick white plush carpet, which not only added layering to the frame but also made sitting more comfortable for the model. During the shoot, I held a folding fan and a scroll as interactive props, making my state more natural.
In terms of posing, I wanted to showcase the features of the costume as much as possible. When sitting down, make sure to spread the skirt hem out, with legs crossed or placed to the side, which can visually elongate the leg lines. Sometimes I also tried kneeling sideways or lying lightly on the carpet, using backlighting and side lighting to outline the silhouette. In terms of lighting, cool tones were used, paired with the moonlight background, hoping to capture that translucent and dreamy feeling. Although the entire shooting process was tedious, seeing the final photos made everything feel worthwhile.
