When I first received these guest photos, the line \"What kind of prey could startle two generals? Let me open my eyes\" kept spinning in my mind. As the portrayer of Jing Yuan, capturing his core temperament—seemingly sleepy forever yet crystal-clear in heart, carrying a hint of laziness with absolute oppressive power—is key to shaping the character. When communicating with the photography team this time, we wanted to break away from conventional static displays and capture more vivid, dynamically tense moments. The final product of these guest photos certainly didn't disappoint; from makeup and styling to set design and pose guidance, the entire process went exceptionally smoothly.
Let's talk about the costume first. Jing Yuan's styling is extremely meticulous in its choice of materials and accessories. The silver-white long wig gleams softly under the lighting, and that streak of red highlights and binding straps on top of the head serve not only as the visual focal point of the entire styling but also as an embellishment of the character's personality. What I like most is the armor design on the upper body, especially the golden beast-head shoulder armor on the right side. The metallic texture is very realistic, and the weight is quite solid; although wearing it for a long time puts a bit of pressure on the shoulders, it gives me a tangible sense of being a \"battlefield commander.\" The black-and-white color blocking on the chest piece, combined with fine textures and the wide leather belt with a giant golden square buckle at the waist, cinches the character's waist and immediately erects the overall silhouette.
The lower garment consists of striking red trousers paired with black leather straps and high-topped leather boots. This color scheme heavily tests body proportions, but we were fortunate enough this time to avoid angles prone to making legs look bulky. Through multiple adjustments of positioning and lighting, the leg lines were drawn out to look slender. The design of those tall boots carries a strong blend of tactical and traditional Chinese styles, and the ornamentation of metal buckles prevents the overall look from appearing monotonous. The cape and outer robe of this outfit are a mixed fabric of gauze and satin; as long as there is a slight breeze or I make a big movement, the skirt hem flutters, perfectly matching the character's carefree, unrestrained, and composed state. Everyone must pay attention to the flow of these lightweight fabrics during shooting; a great dynamic snapshot often depends on the exact moment the wind lifts the clothes.
In terms of props, the long-handled weapon was also carefully prepared. It is very long and has a certain weight; maintaining a straight posture without looking stiff while holding it single-handedly actually requires considerable arm strength and core control. Across these several blockbuster sets, I tried different poses. The posture in Figure 6, sitting and holding the weapon with one hand, looks relatively relaxed—it's the sense of leisure I wanted to express: \"he is resting, but his weapon is right at hand.\" Meanwhile, the low squatting dynamic posture in Figure 4 points the weapon's tip diagonally forward, coordinating with the fluttering hem to showcase tension in a combat stance as much as possible. That action actually tests core strength and body flexibility immensely; we repeatedly worked on angles in the studio to capture that flying-in-the-air feel. The leg-raising action in Figure 5 is similar: it not only requires finding a balance point but also ensuring the gaze and hand gestures point in the same direction. Behind these seemingly smooth actions are actually countless iterations of coordination between the photographer and me on-site.
Aside from the studio's hard-light dynamics, the moonlit setting in Figures 2 and 3 was also a segment I particularly loved. To create that mythological legend atmosphere, the set featured a giant full-moon prop, yellow osmanthus flowers hanging full across the branches, and delicate small red-based lanterns. The crowning touch was the cute white jade rabbit and the wine flask with a black-and-white \"Wine\" label. This scene matches the character's original background featuring a touch of immortal-hero fantasy and traditional Chinese elements wonderfully. While shooting this set, I slowed down my rhythm, abandoning large, open movements and instead sitting quietly on the props. Leaning on that yellowish warm light, I presented a more introverted, story-driven emotional state. The feeling of moonlight spilling over the body, even though it was just artificial studio light, genuinely felt atmospheric the moment the image formed, making me feel like I was sitting on some eaves of the Xianzhou enjoying the moon.
Finally, this appearance wasn't entirely solo; Figure 1 features another fantastic cosplayer cooperating alongside me. Although it's a duo shoot, each maintains a different temperament, and this interactive feeling is extremely rare during a shoot. Everyone can see the positioning and gestures of myself and the other character within the frame—one tends toward steadiness, the other toward agility. Though seemingly undisturbed by each other, placing them in the same frame creates a visual balance.
In short, this shoot was genuinely enjoyable. Restoring a character isn't just about wearing the right clothes, finding the right lighting, and the right posture; more importantly, your heart must get close to the character's mindset. Through these guest photos, I saw a more flesh-and-blood Jing Yuan who can both sip wine under the moon and draw his blade to protect others at any moment. I also hope this photo set lets everyone experience the energy and passion we poured into the cosplay process while appreciating the character's charm.
