[Topaz cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Early Christmas Photoshoot

Starting from location selection, this early-arriving Christmas shoot set a warm color tone base. When I got the character design sheet, I was immediately drawn to her capable yet subtly cunning demeanor, especially her companion Numby, who offered great room for interaction. Preparing this early Christmas theme was not just about catching an early timeframe, but more importantly, using this bright and relaxed atmosphere in the second half of the year to make a meaningful milestone summary for my cosplay photography.

Regarding the costume, the craft details of this cosplay outfit are solid. The inner layer of the top features metallic sheen material, and the red-and-white color blocking on the collar, sleeve covers, and cape shows sharp contrast under studio lighting. The black leather belt and metallic buckle around the waist serve as one of the visual focal points of the entire look; cinching the waistline nicely elongates proportions, paired with black short bottoms and over-the-knee boots to deliver slender lines. Though mobility was slightly restricted due to thick fabrics and stiff leather—such as when raising my arms with Numby, where the diamond-lattice armor on the cuffs pinched at my elbow bend—this trade-off was entirely worth it to restore the character's battle presence.

For makeup, I did my best to recreate character traits. The red highlights on the silver-white wig are highly recognizable, and the hair was volumized to make the top curve look full rather than flat. To match her composed and sharp demeanor, the eye makeup utilized earth-toned blending with crisp eyeliner, while semi-encircling light blue contact lenses gave the gaze stronger penetrating presence. Regarding the subtle bunny teeth look during makeup testing, I initially had a slight hesitation—looking too fierce wouldn't fit, while looking too cute would lose that sly charm in her lore. Ultimately, retaining my natural tooth shape proved to be the most authentic state, and looking at it over time, it genuinely feels quite cute.

In terms of photography technique, the venue at Chengdu Jingjie Photography Studio offered very clean solid-colored backdrops. Photographer Yongzhe (Mentor Maoju) specifically used a yellow backdrop cloth to soften the rich green of the Christmas tree, keeping the overall tone from looking overly heavy. For props, alongside Christmas tree decorations, various gift boxes and that woven wicker handbag were meticulously selected—especially the wicker basket, which brought down-to-earth everyday texture to soften the tough leather feel of the costume. To express Numby flying, besides holding it high manually, we also tried hanging balloons, leveraging light and shadow to create a floating interactive feel between balloons and plush toys.

In fact, I became much more relaxed as the shoot progressed because I caught the character's rhythm—she shouldn't just stand stiffly like a statue, but form a real connection with her companion and surroundings. Sitting on the carpet playing with gifts or holding up her little pet, the micro-expressions captured in these candid moments felt far more vivid.

Although the Christmas set arrangement looked rich, we actually scheduled it very tightly, switching several composition styles within a single day while dodging other venue renters. We tightly managed time to complete all three sets of different seated pose photos. Getting the final pictures proved that insisting on studio shooting was completely right—it controls lighting contrast far better than outdoor locations, highlighting costume textures and metal reflections while avoiding unpredictable winter outdoor lighting.

Post-processing mainly fine-tuned skin tone and rim light on the costume while preserving the original raw photo atmosphere. Especially the kneeling pose looking quietly at the gift box in hand felt very aligned with the character traits I wanted to convey. Though I immersed myself in the Christmas mood quite early, owning a work full of color and warmth serves as the best way to recharge my inner self. The photography environment in Chengdu keeps getting better, and meeting a compatible photographer and studio is truly a joy. I look forward to presenting characters I love before the lens with equal dedication next time in my studio photoshoot share.
