[Saber cosplay] The King of Knights from Fate: Light and Shadow Moments of Excalibur

Perfecting the light and shadow effects for Excalibur took quite a bit of effort; the main goal was to capture that imposing pressure of standing in the shadows with light radiating directly from the blade. This armor set was custom-made, and wearing it was truly a physical workout—especially around the gauntlet joints where range of motion was heavily restricted, requiring constant tension in my arm muscles to keep the long sword steady. Shooting in a dark setting, we used the warm golden glow from the blade as the key light source, illuminating the cool silver metal and deep blue fabric against the pure black backdrop. This lighting method made metering extremely challenging, as the slightest mistake would warp facial shadows; to convey that meticulous, taut composure, I strictly controlled my facial muscles throughout the shoot. Post-processing primarily refined the halo dispersion along the blade while preserving the raw metallic texture without over-smoothing. To stay true to the character, I naturally had to reference the classic running joke about yelling 'Eat Excalibur!' at Shirou. The moment I raised the weapon in the dark, I genuinely felt that intense, razor-sharp focus take over. Because the light was so hard, cropping the chin out of frame actually enhanced the sense of mystique. Heavy as the armor was, seeing the glowing blade reflect bright highlights in my eyes made every bit of effort well worth it.
