Capturing this Tamamo no Mae convention photos set at the New Furong Comic Con was far more challenging than anticipated. The hall was densely crowded with complex floor reflections; ultimately, it came down to photographer Chenyu setting up lights in a dimmer area to achieve the look seen in these photos. The costume's black metallic strap framework is quite intricate—every fastening point had to be placed precisely, as slight misalignment caused uncomfortable pinching or slippage, keeping me bracing my core almost continuously to maintain the silhouette. Grooming the fluffy ears and tail took significant time, and the voluminous tail easily snagged on the garment's fringe, demanding extra vigilance while posing.
For the makeup, special care went into the eye area to match the character's temperament, selecting color tones that harmonized with the pink wig and costume accents, which translated nicely on camera. The long pink wig tended to frizz quickly, requiring frequent touch-ups with setting spray during breaks to maintain clean volume. In terms of posing, subtle adjustments were made to highlight body curves in synergy with high-heeled boots and over-the-knee stockings. Keeping the chest lifted, core engaged, and legs extended was genuinely exhausting, but well worth it for the on-camera outcome.
From initial prep to wrapping up, the process spanned most of the day. The talisman props were custom-made with distressed edges, requiring careful hand angling to minimize unwanted glare. Amidst intense ambient contrast on-site, the photographer adjusted lighting angles and exposure parameters to render the subject crystal clear while preserving rich shadow detail.
The black outfit, accented with grayish-blue ruffles and golden metallic restraints, popped brilliantly against the dark backdrop. Overhead lighting on set caught the metallic hardware, lending it a crisp, tactile luster. To express Tamamo no Mae's essence, I performed several expressive poses, such as holding the talisman near my lips or sitting on the cold floor with a sideways gaze.
Foot placements were readjusted repeatedly due to uneven pressure points in the high heels, which easily threw off balance. Friends on the sidelines helped smooth out hems—especially around the over-the-knee stockings and skirt pleats—to ensure a natural, flattering fit in every frame. The convention shots captured authentic proportions and textures, fulfilling a cherished creative goal. Huge thanks to the photographer for framing the angles and preserving natural skin texture in post-processing; character fidelity relies not only on props, but also on seamless synergy between photographer and cosplayer, leaving me thoroughly pleased with the final quality.
