[Shu cosplay] Arknights: Gentle Echoes Amidst the Aroma of Tea

The theme of this photoshoot is Shu from Arknights. Since it coincided with her birthday, I decided to document this special character sentiment with a complete studio set shoot. The preparation process took considerable effort, especially with the wig and accessories, requiring meticulous refinement to faithfully capture that gentle yet spirited aura in this Shu cosplay.

Let's start with hair and makeup. The wig features a very pale yellow, styled into blue-and-yellow braided pigtails on both sides. I deliberately dotted the braids with delicate, light-colored floral ornaments to better complement the character's soft, airy elegance. The animal ears and dark branching horns on top were custom-made, requiring careful angle adjustments during fitting to ensure they created the most natural three-dimensional depth on camera without looking jarring. The makeup was kept subtle rather than heavy, focusing on giving the gaze a deep, translucent clarity; the elongated eyeliner in particular helped bring out a calm, focused demeanor.

For the costume, the inner layer is a sleeveless camisole top pieced together in yellow and white, while the loose purplish-red outer robe serves as a major visual highlight, featuring wide white plush fur trimming along the collar and cuffs that adds warmth and soft texture. The dark miniskirt with lace detailing underneath adds rich layering to the overall silhouette. On my feet were white lace-up sandals; this open-toed strappy design photographed wonderfully, naturally elongating the leg lines with a relaxed, effortless charm.

The setting was arranged in a traditional wooden Japanese tearoom style, with sliding wooden doors, circular openwork lattice windows, and blooming pink-and-white cherry blossom branches creating a serene, peaceful slice-of-life atmosphere. Blue-and-white porcelain vases, a low wooden tea table, vibrant ceramic bowls on the tea tray, and assorted teaware accessories greatly enriched the frame's details—making the space feel less like a sterile photo studio and more like an authentic, lived-in home.

The lighting on the day of the shoot was soft and warm, and photographer Apple Pie is exceptionally skilled at capturing this sense of daily life and atmosphere. Holding a small prop in hand and sitting on the wooden floor platform, I tried to ease into a completely relaxed state. While many prefer cool and fierce expressions for cosplay, portraying Shu calls for an inner core of gentle composure. So I adjusted my seating posture, turning slightly sideways to direct a soft gaze into the lens, which, along with the cherry blossom branches stretching out of frame, gave the entire composition a wonderful sense of breathing room.

Reviewing the photos after the shoot, I found that beyond superficial visual accuracy, aligning one's mindset and demeanor is truly the soul of Roleplay. Although these images feature no exaggerated poses or flashy visual effects, it is precisely this calm, everyday imagery that best conveys the character's true colors. Being able to deliver this quiet aesthetic makes this Photography project deeply meaningful, and I am especially grateful for the photographer's meticulous lighting and composition. The entire experience of immersing myself in this Oriental aesthetic was pure enjoyment in this Anime cosplay journey.
