[Fugue Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: Journey Across the Sea of Stars and Moments of Serenity

For this photoshoot, I chose a very special reclining posture to recreate the character. Surrounded by various everyday props, it simulated the relaxed feeling of taking a short rest during a journey. Compared to high-octane combat poses, this supine composition with closed eyes often better reveals the character's tranquil, unguarded side. To maintain balance within the frame, I deliberately lay flat while tilting my body slightly to the left, allowing the scattered hair strands and adjacent floral bouquet to blend together organically without making the composition feel staged.

This costume is packed with intricate details—interwoven reddish-brown tones paired with golden embroidered patterns, along with an oversized fluffy tail, easily anchor the visual weight from an overhead bird's-eye perspective. However, lying down in this attire was quite a challenge. To prevent the massive tail from deforming or flattening under pressure, I repeatedly adjusted my center of gravity during posing to ensure a relaxed stretch while letting the fluffy texture flow smoothly along the contours of my body. At the same time, the multi-layered sash around the waist is quite substantial; without slightly engaging my core while lying flat, the silhouette could easily look bulky, so when the shutter clicked, I was actually maintaining a subtle state of core engagement. Before shooting, the makeup artist drew golden floral patterns along my cheeks—this detail, complemented by warm lighting, gave my skin a jade-like, radiant sheen that perfectly matched the character's blend of ethereal vivacity and mystery.

Arranging the surrounding props also took considerable thought. For the cluster of blossoms on the left side of the frame, I intentionally chose pale, vintage-style pink, white, and yellow tones, which, paired with the ink-wash bird-and-flower scroll behind, infused the photos with a touch of elegant, scholarly serenity. On the wooden tray at the bottom right, a folding fan, a small porcelain wine pot, and two plump pink peaches were delicately arranged, with a few fresh green leaves scattered across the tray edge. Along with the heavy, multi-faceted tiered wooden box in the absolute foreground, these seemingly simple lifestyle items came together to form an essential narrative backdrop. Lying within this circle of props during the shoot, I placed the handheld folding fan near the edge of my chest to keep the composition from feeling scattered, naturally anchoring the visual center on my face and dynamic accessories.

Honestly, after doing cosplay for so long across countless poses and settings, designing an entire elaborate environment specifically for a "lying down" shoot felt remarkably fresh. A top-down bird's-eye angle looking over the subject often blurs the boundary between person and background; to keep the scene from looking cluttered, the photographer deliberately elevated the camera rig to maintain a clean, upright perspective. This deeply relaxed physical state aligns closely with the character's casual, free-spirited nature in lore. Yet while the final photos appear serene and effortless, keeping the costume unwrinkled and the wig pristine while maintaining graceful body posture meant holding fixed poses for several minutes at a time until the photographer signaled that the optimal light reflection was captured.

The lighting design for this shoot was also fascinating—instead of bright daylight, we opted for a warm golden twilight hue, softening the otherwise deep and composed costume palette. A beam of rim-side light sliced in from the top left of the frame, falling right across the fluffy surface of the large tail to coat the fur edges in a soft, radiant glow, instantly heightening the dreamy ambiance. Coupled with woven bamboo baskets, gentle blossoms, and screen elements subtly placed throughout the environment, the overarching classical charm and fantasy aesthetic came exceptionally close to my envisioned scene.

Regarding this styling, what satisfied me most were the small bronze-gold accessories inlaid into the fabric and crown. Under warm-toned lighting, their subtle reflections served as flattering highlights without becoming so glaring as to distract from facial expressions. Furthermore, placing the folding fan adorned with crimson and orange lines nearby created a tight visual harmony with the costume's color scheme. Reviewing the playback on set after wrapping up, what moved us most was precisely this effortlessly captured, languid aura. Sometimes, without complex choreography or dramatic plotlines, simply lying quietly surrounded by greenery, tea sets, and flowers can convey the unique warmth of Tingyun and Fugue along her journey—Through this arduous journey to reach the stars. As the cosplayer, I deeply understand why this character is so beloved, for her story holds countless tender moments. The flowers, teapot, wooden box, and fluffy tail symbolizing her path across the starry sea united to form the core expression of this shoot. I hope this photo set captures that cozy moment of pausing briefly beneath the starlit sky, closing one's eyes to enjoy the gentle breeze whispering past.
