[Sui family cosplay] Can't Hold Back: Arknights Sui Family Group Shoot Cosplay Teaser — The Contrast Record from Ink Wash Dragon to Doodle Dragon

Leaking a big Cosplay Teaser preview of our Sui family cosplay group shoot before the final photos are out—I held onto it for so long that I couldn't resist dropping a spoiler! Mainly, I wanted to share the amazing on-set moment in the lower half of the image: drawing seriously on the red paper started off feeling great, but by the end, it turned into a soulful doodle that had us cracking up for ages.

Our shoot this time centered on the entire Sui family lineup, requiring considerable prep work. The red and blue tattoos on our hands were painted stroke by stroke with specialized body paint, and details like wrist bead bracelets and nail art were carefully checked. The texture of the hand close-up in the top half of the photo was created by sketching an Ink wash dragon onto real red paper with a Chinese calligraphy brush, bringing a strong Chinese style hand-drawn atmosphere.

But after wrapping up the first half and moving into the latter part of the shoot, the calligraphy master among us stepped up. Once he took over the brush, he drew that adorably derpy cartoon dragon directly on white paper, adding game-like UI visual effects with choices like 'Borrow Momentum from whom?', 'Forge Scales with whom?', and 'Satisfy Hunger with whom?'. This move instantly turned what was a solemn Chinese style hand-drawn setting into a hilarious interactive session. Everyone said it had pure soul, and indeed, breaking away from conventional composition and style packed a massive visual punch.

The full panorama of the final photo set hasn't been retouched yet, but looking at these hands with nail art, tattoos, props, and brushes, it raises the anticipation for the full-frontal costumes and faces even higher. Throughout the entire preparation process, everyone exchanged makeup and styling suggestions, meticulously adjusting the placement of art supplies and the tilt of lighting. Organizing a multi-person group shoot presented quite a logistical challenge in terms of venue and scheduling.

In particular, when painting on the red paper during the first half, the ink density and the dragon's linework were specifically curated to stay as true as possible to the Sui family atmosphere and traditional Chinese background in Arknights. We originally thought the whole shoot would maintain this serious tone, only for the calligraphy expert to steer it off-course in an instant. Yet, that's precisely the greatest joy of a group shoot—infusing our own inside jokes and meme expressions into an otherwise serious cosplay roleplay.

Huge thanks to all the Sui family cosplayers for rolling with such whimsical shoot ideas; everyone showcased natural interactions in front of the lens and painting materials.
