[Shu cosplay] Arknights: Unrealized Realities Greenery Outdoor Casual Shoot

Riding on the lingering excitement of shooting this set of Shu cosplay photos, I organized and shared my solo photo set. For this shoot, a flight of stone steps reminiscent of Unrealized Realities was chosen as the main scene, surrounded by lush green shrubs and rockeries. The environment naturally carried an ancient aesthetic that harmonized perfectly with the earthbound, grounded presence Shu embodies.

The highlight of this costume lies in its intricate details. The white top features a hollowed-out, off-the-shoulder cut that accentuates the lines of the shoulder and collarbone, paired with airy white detachable sleeves and complex red-and-black hanging accessories across the chest, creating rich visual layers. The lower half consists of color-blocked wide-leg trousers adorned with dark blue stripes and red totem patterns on both sides; when walking or turning around, the fabric flows with a wonderful drape and ethereal grace. To bring out the character's unique demeanor, I also wore a pair of black platform boots.

The real test of stamina was the props. To make that enormous, fluffy yellow-and-blue tail curve naturally and stay firmly secured behind me, plenty of wires and straps were hidden inside. The sword in hand is quite long with a long red tassel, while the scabbard is stowed on the other side. The most troublesome piece was the dandelion-like floating block on my left hand—combining black-and-yellow cubes with yellow feathers, which looked featherweight visually but was surprisingly heavy to keep securely in place.

In terms of hair and makeup, the wig's gradient was handled with great care: pale platinum blonde at the crown transitioning into soft cream-yellow in the midsection, and ending in deep blue tips. Paired with the blue dragon horns on top, it maximized that ethereal spirit aesthetic. The eye makeup wasn't heavy, using soft brown and blended red tones to make the gaze look gentle yet spirited.

During the shoot, the chemistry with the photographer was seamless. Because the environment complemented the costume so well, we avoided overly exaggerated poses. The first two photos utilized foreground leaves with wide-aperture blur, capturing the exact moment I turned my head over my shoulder—looking as if hiding amidst the greenery while exuding a strong cinematic film texture. The dappled light beneath the tree shade that day was simply perfect, allowing the folds of the clothing and the plush fur of the tail to emerge naturally without looking harsh.

In post-processing, instead of applying a generic flat-white filter, we preserved the authentic lighting contrast and warmed up the tone slightly so everyone can clearly see the fabric patterns on the trousers and the green moss in the background.

Reflecting after wrapping up, a character like Shu communicates her presence primarily through body language and gaze rather than flashy poses. This Outdoor photography set, brimming with natural botanical freshness, truly achieved the gentle, poised warmth I envisioned.

Although the sun was quite glaring that day, we were lucky to have cloud cover blocking the harshest rays. After completing each pose, the calls of unfamiliar birds echoed overhead—a leisurely pace perfectly suited for crafting photos with subtle tension. While waiting for the light, I repeatedly adjusted the hem to let it drape naturally or catch a hint of the breeze.

Because the props were so heavy, I almost slipped during a break, thankfully catching myself against a nearby tree trunk. Cooperating with the photographer was one of my most satisfying experiences recently—he captured the ethereal flow of the attire, and I aimed to convey the character's calm composure and unyielding resolve through expressions and gestures. Looking back at these photos, I can still feel that tranquil serenity, which feels like a truly rewarding wrap-up to all the hard work in this Arknights cosplay session.
