Bringing this outfit to CPG 08 for these convention photos turned out to be much more demanding than I had anticipated. The metal frame and plastic panels of the bat wings were considerably heavier than they appeared, leaving my shoulders genuinely aching after a full day of shooting.
The photographer set up the shoot indoors under relatively hard lighting, which perfectly accentuated the texture and depth of the black-pink gothic palette. Holding the small sword with its heart-shaped guard, paired with the eyepatch and dip-dyed long hair, allowed the alluring aura to translate quite naturally on camera. Since the costume features a Lolita silhouette, a seated pose proved to be an ideal display angle. Sitting atop a wheeled suitcase allowed me to utilize the height difference to block out crowds in the background while naturally highlighting leg lines.
Speaking of leg lines, this look utilized thigh-high black stockings paired with a leg ring and high-heeled tall boots, which flattered the leg shape exceptionally well in frame. The gloves are pink satin, worn layered outside the sleeves, providing an eye-catching visual accent when raising the sword or posing with hand gestures. However, satin gloves get dirty very easily, requiring careful caution between takes to avoid brushing against gear. While the eyepatch looks undeniably cool, it restricted vision to one eye, meaning I had to rely heavily on the photographer's guidance when adjusting my footing and stance.
For composition, framing directly from the front or at a subtle side angle worked best to emphasize hand and leg movements. Poses like pointing the sword toward the lens or resting a finger against the cheek, combined with a slight low angle, brought out plenty of emotion in the shot. The dim background contrasted naturally with my shiny dark hair, making the pink heart-shaped cutout at the chest stand out even more. Hauling all the props, wings, and suitcase around the venue was undeniably tiring, but reviewing these effective captures on the camera made all the effort worthwhile. Practical takeaways from this shoot—such as maintaining costume tidiness and keeping up appearances under intense convention conditions—will definitely serve as valuable experience for future cosplay convention photos.
