A riverside breeze, drizzling rain, a transparent umbrella, and an unhurried afternoon—this was easily my favorite shooting setup today. There was no need for exaggerated poses; simply following the direction of the wind or perching casually on a wooden crate allowed the mood to settle gently into the rainy ambiance.
For this shoot, I selected a cropped sailor suit in white with black and gold trim. The midriff-baring cut visually lifts the waistline, while the pleated skirt maintains a crisp, structured drape. To enhance the anime aesthetic, I added thin-rimmed round glasses for an endearing touch of bookish charm. The lower half was paired with sheer Black stockings and glossy Mary Jane shoes, creating a sharp monochrome contrast that felt remarkably clean and crisp on an overcast day.
Shooting outdoors in the rain poses a real challenge with light. This time, I brought the Sony A7CR paired with the FE 50mm F1.2 GM lens. The 50mm focal length is exceptionally natural for portraits, providing ambient context without diminishing the subject in the frame. The F1.2 aperture is an absolute lifesaver in low light, delivering abundant exposure while melting away cluttered cityscape architecture across the river into creamy bokeh, making the subject pop. Overcast daylight produces beautifully diffused, gentle illumination—free of harsh facial shadows—lending the skin a remarkably translucent texture.
Holding a clear long-handle umbrella throughout the shoot proved invaluable: beyond shielding from rain, it served as a natural anchor for hand positioning. When seated on a bench, holding the umbrella with one hand while resting the other casually on my leg, leaning slightly forward with a subtly wistful gaze, created an evocative frame. Leaning against the riverside railing was another favorite: standing in three-quarter profile with one leg gently bent used the railing's perspective as leading lines, elongating the legs with effortless poise. When gusts picked up, tousled hair added an effortless, windswept charm that felt far more lively than static posing.
Puddles on the ground also served as lovely reflective surfaces; lowering the camera angle captured beautiful reflections that enriched the composition. Spending the afternoon embracing the river wind and mist left my clothes and hair a bit damp, but seeing the cool, serene mood captured in the final shots made every single moment completely worthwhile.
