Shooting in an Arcade environment saturated with neon lights always sparks unique inspiration from the synergy between lighting and setting. For this Belle cosplay from Zenless Zone Zero, I poured a lot of effort into movement choreography and micro-details to bring out her vibrant personality as a Gaming Girl.
First, let's talk about the feel of this costume. The black long-sleeved jacket features white grid lines, accented with metallic armbands and cross-shaped buttons, exuding a strong techwear vibe. The white cropped capelet and yellow tie stand out brilliantly under neon lighting—especially the tie, which sways with body movements to guide the visual flow of the frame. The brown leather buckles and red pull-tabs are also great touches, offering rich tactile texture. The little bear charm on the skirt hem not only faithfully recreates the character's signature motif, but also adds a playful layer to the overall silhouette. Atop my head, the small black round cap with gold patterns forms a striking color contrast against the bright blue short wig, reflecting vivid translucency under the alternating blue and red Arcade lights. To complement this luminous clarity, I enhanced the depth of my eye makeup and wore bright blue contact lenses, giving my gaze a deeper, spirited look.
Props were an essential support for this shoot. Holding the red-and-blue light gun and slipping on the pixel sunglasses immediately transformed my state of mind. Props aren't just for static poses—they need to be woven into action. If you just stiffly raise a gun, the frame looks lifeless. I tried imagining myself standing in front of an arcade cabinet, treating the lens as the gaming screen or an opponent, making aiming and ducking-and-dodging movements. Wearing the pixel sunglasses, pushing up the frame or tipping my head slightly to glance over the rims added a cool edge. In front of the claw machine, combining claw-grabbing motions and focused gazes with the light gun and a half-kneeling stance gave the entire scene an interactive, storytelling quality.
The on-site neon lights served as the ultimate lighting magic. Alternating pink-purple and cyan-blue illumination falling across my face not only accentuated facial planes, but also lent a distinct cyberpunk texture to the skin. During the shoot, I kept my body dynamic, avoiding standing rigidly like a wooden stake. For example, when crouching next to the claw machine, I leaned my center of gravity forward, raised one leg slightly, and rested an elbow on my knee; this not only allowed the lines of the skirt and Black stockings to show naturally, but also kept the posture relaxed. In front of the game cabinets, I also reached toward the camera, or mimed inserting coins and manipulating the joystick. These everyday actions in the Arcade, infused with character nuances, yielded fantastic results.
The entire shoot was delightfully enjoyable, with the camera shutter rarely pausing. Embedding a character within such a thematic setting makes the whole process feel so relaxed. The photographer was also fantastic at catching kinetic moments; often, I just needed to fully immerse myself in playing and expressing, and great frames were captured effortlessly. I hope this photo set taken at the Arcade lets everyone feel that lighthearted, joyful Gaming Girl energy!
