【Keqing cosplay】Genshin Impact: Yuheng Keqing's Studio Photoshoot Diary — Game Cosplay, Black Stockings & Oiled Paper Umbrella - Image 2

Crafting this Keqing cosplay studio shoot required immense thought and care from initial styling to final cuts. As the Yuheng in Genshin Impact, her personality and outfit design are instantly recognizable. For this shoot, I wore her classic purple modernized sleeveless qipao, accented with white spliced panels and golden piping. To recreate those iconic twin cat-ear buns and long twin ponytails, I spent hours teasing and styling the wig, using up over half a bottle of setting spray.

The costume's tailoring is genuinely demanding; to align with 2D proportions, adjustments were made to the cinched waist and chest contouring. To capture that capable yet splendid aura, I accessorized with deep purple over-the-elbow opera gloves with a thicker texture, ensuring clean arm lines when propping the umbrella. The prop was a custom pale-yellow Oiled paper umbrella with bamboo ribs that carried solid weight, featuring a red tassel dangling from the handle that swayed gracefully with every movement.

The shoot took place in a seamless pure gray backdrop studio, which tests lighting control the most. The first shot was taken sitting on a black folding ladder, leaning forward slightly with the left hand holding the umbrella and the right foot resting on the ladder rung. This pose puts core stability to the test—the ladder was somewhat narrow, demanding constant balance to avoid wobbling. Side rim lighting carved out the layered strands of the purple hair, preventing the deep purple fabric from drowning against the gray backdrop. The second photo shifted posture: sitting with legs crossed, holding the umbrella in front with both hands. This pose elegantly displayed the texture of the Black stockings and glossy patent-leather heels, making the leg silhouette crisp against the gray seamless. Being a studio shoot, there was no wind blowing the hair, so a sense of dynamic flow in the wig was subtly introduced in post-production.

Choosing the right stockings involved testing several options. Overly sheer stockings produce excessive glare and look cheap, whereas opaque tights lose tactile texture. Ultimately, I settled on a pair of sheer, light-compression Black stockings paired with black patent-leather stilettos for visual cohesion. Although many players jokingly tease Keqing as the "Beef Offal Master," I strove to preserve the character's inherent aloof majesty and commanding presence in this Game cosplay. Thus, I minimized overt, bubbly smiles, maintaining a steady, composed gaze into the lens.

During post-processing retouching, focus was centered on skin texture and color calibration. Purple easily suffers from color shifts under studio lights, turning dull gray or overly blue. I shifted purple hues towards magenta, boosted luminosity, and dialed back saturation to match the in-game texture from Genshin Impact. Natural skin texture was preserved with minimal smoothing to maintain facial three-dimensionality even under flat lighting. Shadows on the Black stockings were lifted slightly to create smooth, natural gradients across the legs.

Overall, the costume fabrics performed beautifully under the lights, especially the translucent glow of the Oiled paper umbrella, which added warm-toned dimension to the frame. Using the ladder was a happy accident; we originally prepared a high barstool, but found the ladder's height and angle were far more fitting, yielding unexpected visual flair. I hope this studio shoot offers useful insights into lighting and prop synergy. Sharing this set here!
