[Violet Evergarden cosplay] Violet Evergarden: A Journey Carrying a Suitcase

Today's noon sunlight was incredibly intense, hitting the dark wooden door directly and slicing harsh shadows across the light and dark contrast. Standing before the porch with a vintage brown suitcase in hand, I felt I truly needed to convey that heavy feeling of travel through the lens. This shoot features Violet Evergarden from the Kyoani classic. To restore that vintage Western style, I put quite a bit of effort into hair and makeup; the eyeshadow used cool light tones and the eyeliner was drawn thin and long, giving my gaze a sharper yet translucent look. The wig took a long time to style, adjusting the slightly curled ends to look natural and avoid plastic shine. Outfit-wise, the deep blue waist-cinched coat had crisp tailoring, paired with a brown leather belt at the waist and a white pleated long skirt, creating an elegant look that highlighted the waistline.

The first shooting spot was in front of a classical-style stone building, where a dark carved wooden door twice a person's height added incredible texture. Heavy door frames and plaster moldings gave the scene a theatrical solemnity. The photographer specifically captured a beam of strong sunlight coming from the side, bathing half of me in warm light while hiding the other half in shadow; this high-contrast hard light gave the character a rich narrative feel. Because the light angle was tricky—a slight shift would distort the shadows—I had to adjust my standing posture and suitcase angle over a dozen times to dodge water puddles on the ground and unsuitable shadow placements.

The second scene led to an outdoor staircase lined with white flower stands. Lush vegetation climbed high along the trestles, weaving delicate light spots under the sun. I switched to holding a blue-and-white lace-trimmed parasol. The craftsmanship of this parasol was exquisite, with smooth ribs and delicate lace wrapping that blocked the harsh UV rays well when opened. Paired with rough stone brick steps underfoot and vibrant green leaves around, this set captured the comfortable relaxation of a mid-journey rest perfectly. The only minor hiccup was the wind; when standing, stronger gusts made the parasol unstable, forcing me to tighten my core while keeping my facial expression intact.

Finally, when shooting among the flowers, the light had softened considerably. The air carried a subtle plastic scent from artificial plants, but it didn't detract from the visual beauty. Pink and blue flowers were stacked neatly against the dark background, so I sat cross-legged on the artificial turf, letting my white skirt spread out. As I sat, the photographer caught the moment I looked down toward the camera—a slightly raw yet resolute expression that fit the character's emotional journey along her travels. Because this set required keeping my back straight without appearing stiff, my back felt quite sore afterward, but seeing the real-time previews made everything worth it.

This outdoor session lasted nearly three hours, facing several challenges of re-lighting due to shifting sunlight, but the yield of usable shots was extremely high. Choosing final photos was tough because every shot had distinct light and shadow details. Compared to the first two full-body standing shots holding the parasol, I personally favor the final seated shot in the flower bush, because that relaxed state of complete harmony with nature feels like the precise moment she finally lets down her guard. This hair and makeup setup proved highly adaptable, with the classic color scheme of deep blue, pure white, and brown. Next, I plan to look for a wheat field or a waterside location; combining those with wooden buildings and flower vines should create an even more complete narrative series.

Though shoot day was exhausting—walking back and forth under the scorching sun in a wig with sweat dripping down my forehead—the moment frozen by the shutter was always filled with ceremony. I hope everyone enjoys this set of Anime-style photography.
