[Shimoe Koharu cosplay] Blue Archive's Guardian: Happy Birthday!

Counting it down, it has been just under a year since I first put on Koharu's costume, and within this time, I've gathered nine photo sets with distinct stylings. As a cosplayer who has portrayed the same character multiple times, every time I slip back into her clothes and seek fitting atmospheres across different scenes, my understanding of this character deepens. On her birthday, I really wanted to document my insights and reflections from the set over this past year of Cosplay photography.

The first set was swimwear, shot by an outdoor pool. The reflections and ripples on the water surface created a natural textural contrast against the black floral patterns on the fabric. To capture the precise moments of water splashing, I squatted in the water and adjusted repeatedly; the black choker and bikini strap details stood out beautifully in the aquatic environment.

The second set took a softer, more domestic route. A white silky camisole paired with a White thigh-highs outfit created a cohesive color tone. The small black wings and choker created a striking visual contrast enveloped in white. The photographer used a medium telephoto lens perfectly suited to capture my posture balancing beside the table; although it was a seated pose, the placement of limbs and the focus of my gaze toward the lens had to be rehearsed carefully in the mirror beforehand.

The third set, featuring an off-shoulder white T-shirt and denim shorts in Anime-style fashion, brought the character's lore into an everyday café setting. The natural light that day was magnificent, pouring through floor-to-ceiling windows to give my long hair and shoulders a translucent glow. I deliberately avoided heavy makeup, wanting this 'off-duty' casual vibe to feel all the more vivid and effortless.

Next came the pink bow-accented maid outfit, set against yellow classroom desks, chairs, and a blackboard that provided rich, high-saturation color backdrops for the attire. The white lace trim and pink bows popped brightly on camera. Meanwhile, for the campus look featuring a black hoodie and red plaid skirt, I took it to an anime convention. Posing beside an official standee of her gave a wonderful sense of crossover; the cooler convention hall lights made the blacks and reds of the outfit look especially solid and punchy.

In the classroom set cradling a small pink plushie, to soften the visual mood, I lowered my center of gravity while holding the toy, giving prominence to hand and facial close-ups. The black wings and twin-tail styling showed massive presence from this perspective. Switching to the pink knit cardigan set, we emphasized lower-body layering: a dark grey pleated skirt paired with a White thigh-highs outfit, where controlling the pull of the skirt hem was key—keeping it loose enough to retain casual spontaneity without looking overly tense.

I also particularly love the shot with puddles on the rooftop after the rain. The water puddles on the ground created a natural mirror reflection, keeping the composition pristine and clean. Wearing the black student backpack while standing against the backlighting elongated my silhouette, with ground reflections expanding the spatial field; this minimalist style truly tested the model's posing poise. The final cheerleader outfit, paired with yellow pom-poms, brought the series back to an energetic campus club atmosphere, where the baseball cap pressing down on the bangs focused visual attention squarely on my eyes.

These nine outfits encompass so many varied facets of her. In managing props and wig styling, I've steadily honed my craft—for instance, ensuring the halo is anchored securely to prevent swaying in outdoor breezes, and choosing lightweight materials for the black wings to ease the fatigue of long shoot days. Every time I review a shoot, I see my own growth in makeup details and facial expression control. Under a year has passed so quickly; huge thanks to the photographer and makeup artists for orchestrating everything, allowing me to faithfully recreate the nuanced texture of Shimoe Koharu cosplay from Blue Archive across every dimension.
