Today's shoot for Gokou Ruri's Maid outfit completely wiped me out—retouching nine full images strained my eyes to the absolute limit. Yet the moment the final photos materialized, every freezing hour endured on set felt entirely worthwhile.

The costume details were spot-on: a dark brown long-sleeved dress paired with a white folded collar and red bow tie, overlaid with a beige ruffled half-apron. The wig was trimmed with blunt bangs and paired with her iconic black cat ears and red ribbons, while red colored contacts faithfully captured Kuroneko's tsundere yet mysterious essence. To match the character setting, I wore grey tights and black patent leather Mary Jane shoes, which accentuated the leg lines beautifully.

The shooting location was a vintage-styled wooden tavern. The background featured a gold-framed floor mirror, lush greenery, and a whole wall of wine racks and beverage bottles. The warm yellow ambient lighting bathed the wooden furnishings in a rich, cozy glow that complemented the dark brown dress seamlessly.

For posing, I referenced Kuroneko's usual facade of aloofness masking her subtle chuunibyou nature. In the first shot, I raised my hand in a salute-like gesture while keeping my gaze intentionally blank to evoke a sense of detachment. The second shot featured one hand on my hip while the other lightly brushed a cat ear—a slightly more relaxed pose leaning forward, which also highlighted the layered contrast between the skirt hem and the grey tights.

Cosplay's most tedious aspects often come down to maintaining the wig and keeping the garments neatly arranged. Outfits loaded with ruffles and dense pleats wrinkle the instant you sit, meaning breaks between takes were spent straightening the hem and apron sash. Editing all nine photos in one sitting—fine-tuning colors and skin texture—was quite an eye strain; by the end, everything started looking slightly purplish.

Kuroneko is a character with real emotional nuance, and capturing that delicate, tsundere hesitation in front of the lens required constant micro-adjustments. I steered clear of overly dramatic expressions, placing all emphasis on subtle glances and poise. The overall mood remains serene and grounded, avoiding tacky post-processing effects to preserve the tactile lighting and authentic ambiance of the space.

From prep work and on-set shooting to retouching all nine frames, I handled every single step myself. Though utterly exhausted, seeing the scenery and character come alive so faithfully brings immense satisfaction. These photos serve as a tribute to all the effort poured in, and I hope everyone can feel the evocative atmosphere of this maid ensemble.
