[Ellen Joe cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero Shark Girl's Dark Industrial Maid Outfit

The location for this shoot was deliberately chosen in a graffiti-covered industrial stairwell: non-slip diamond plate steel, scarlet metal railings, plus idle gas canisters and ventilation ducts in the background created a rugged, post-apocalyptic mechanical atmosphere tailor-made for channeling Ellen Joe's predatory shark attributes. Rather than replicating her everyday in-game outfit, I opted for this modified maid dress imbued with hardcore punk aesthetics. The black-and-white palette offers a classic visual clash, but I selected matte-textured leather fabric accented by crisp, structured white ruffles along the collar and cuffs, seeking an ideal balance between the gentleness of a maid uniform and the razor-sharp edge of a shark.

The spiked metal choker around my neck was the beating heart of this styling, instantly ramping up the menacing edge. Paired with a blunt-bang black short bob, crimson dip-dyed ends, and crimson contact lenses, the makeup deepened the tones beneath the lower lids and outer corners, elongating the eye shape to give my gaze an unapologetically piercing intensity. To prevent frames from feeling overly rigid, I incorporated a crimson lollipop as a prop—this slightly blood-red yet playful accent introduced a delightful pop of contrast to the shark girl's icy demeanor.

For the lower half, to accentuate body proportions and textural hierarchy, I styled an asymmetrical look with sheer Black stockings. The chunky platform heels with red soles posed a real endurance trial for standing shots—the heels were towering and heavy, leaving my insteps and calves aching after extended takes. However, the platform design worked wonders for lengthening leg lines, boosting visual height while giving my entire silhouette an imposing, upright posture. To maximize visual extension, whenever seated I shifted my center of gravity backward, extending the stocking-clad leg forward to leverage optical perspective across the lens.

Controlling the ambient lighting also demanded careful craft. To suit the dim industrial surroundings, we primarily utilized the red and amber neon tubes in the stairwell as our key light source. This warm, moody side-lighting and backlighting not only carved out the white ruffled edges of the dress, but also deepened shadows across the face and torso to create dramatic, sculptural dimension. In particular, the specular highlights reflecting off the sheer black stockings and leather skirt rendered the contrasting material textures beautifully on camera.

While shooting, I paid special attention to adjusting my bodily center of gravity—for instance, when seated on the steps, I utilized the elevation difference between tiers to let my legs cascade down in a staggered, elongated line. In medium shots and close-ups, my gaze couldn't wander; I locked focus onto a single focal point on the lens or stared intently at the lollipop in hand, imagining savoring a prey's futile struggle so the resulting expressions felt natural and magnetically intense. From hair and makeup prep to wrapping the shoot, the entire session spanned nearly five hours. Repeatedly climbing stairs in heavy platform heels was physically exhausting, yet seeing how seamlessly lighting and textures merged in the finished edits made every ounce of effort worthwhile. I can't wait to experiment with even more creative redesigns next time.
