[Chocola and Vanilla Cosplay] Afternoon teatime in NEKOPARA

Putting on this maid outfit dominated by black and white and embellished with red and blue lines, and wearing the matching cat ear headband, sitting in the photography area of the Manqiu convention with my partner instantly brought out that casual daily feel of the original work itself. The core idea of this shoot was to restore the intimate interaction of the characters, so we intentionally added simulated dessert props—croissants, ice cream cups, and a few exquisite small cakes—to the scene layout. The addition of these colors brought life to the originally dark-toned background, making it easier for the two of us to relax and enter the zone in front of the lens.

Let me share some makeup and styling details. The white-haired character needs to wear a wig with a slight fluffiness, paired with a light-colored cat ear headband. To echo the blue accents of the costume, the bow on the headband was also chosen in a fresh lake blue. The red-haired partner did a high ponytail styling this time, paired with a red bow decoration, forming a highly classic red-and-blue contrast with my blue-and-white color scheme. Standing together, the two of us offer a great color balance visually. For the eye makeup, we both deepened the eyeliner and aegyo sal (tear bags) to make the gaze look more agile, and coordinated with the highlight reflections of the venue, the glossiness of the gaze was controlled exceptionally well.

For this set of photos, we tried two different compositions and poses. The sets sitting on the carpet focus on showcasing approachability and the tacit understanding between the two. The two interlocking hands or sitting side by side making cat claw gestures—these relatively static frames are perfect for reflecting the ruffles of the maid outfit, the decorations on the cuffs, and the drape of the skirt hem. Additionally, to display the overall effect of the costume and the sense of vitality in the character setting as much as possible, we specially shot a set of standing claw-waving shots on the reflective floor. During that set of movements, both of us raised our hands simultaneously to mimic cat claws, coordinated with black thick-soled Mary Janes and two pairs of over-the-knee long socks—one white and one black—which not only elongated the visual proportions of the legs but also gave the frame a great sense of rhythm. The contrast between white and black stockings in the same frame also became a part that heavily attracted the visual focal point in this photo drop.

I must praise the lighting of the day and the photographer's candid captures. The venue of the Manqiu convention was arranged with high-light white lamps at the top, which, combined with the highly reflective floor, provided an excellent photography environment. This kind of hard light source actually tests the skin texture heavily during shooting, but fortunately, we did a good job with the base and setting makeup in advance. After slight post-processing adjustments, the skin tone looked translucent without any local highlight clipping or sallow skin problems. The reflective floor was a major bonus for the entire frame; the reflections of the figures not only increased the spatial depth of the frame but also made the photo overall present a clean, bright anime photography style. The photographer, Wakaba, kept guiding the subtle adjustments of our movements throughout the shoot—such as how high to raise hands and which way to turn faces to avoid dead angles and get these finished photos, for which I am truly very grateful.

As convention photos drop from the expo, the rhythm of this shoot was very compact but also quite smooth. Compared to studio shoots, the lighting and environment at the convention floor can better bring out an authentic "anime offline atmosphere." Especially when arranging the carpet and props, the occasional curious glances from passersby instead added a few notes of vividness to the shooting process. When shooting dessert props, one needs to pay attention to the layering of placement, so as not to block the face or let the props steal the spotlight due to an overly large foreground. This duo cosplay set of images, through the interspersed presentation of sitting and standing poses, relatively completely restores the daily companionship atmosphere of this classic duo combination in my mind. I highly enjoyed this process, and I hope this set of photos can convey the character's own playfulness and cuteness.
