Shooting this Tamamo no Mae maid outfit cosplay took place right in my hometown living room, centered around the beloved Fate/Grand Order character. Working away from home all year meant the Lunar New Year break back home finally gave me plenty of time to set this up. Drawing the curtains, moving out a standing fan and a chair, and setting up a large mirror turned the space into an improvised shoot studio. I spent quite a while preparing this costume. The biggest challenge came from the fluffy tail and pink wig—both were rather heavy to wear, making prolonged standing tiring, but completely worth it for character fidelity.
For hair and makeup, I specifically picked yellow-green contacts to complement the pink hair, applying a heavier layer of blush to bring out that playful fox-spirit charm on camera. The maid outfit is rich with details—the collar bow and the cut-out ruffled chest design required careful mirror-selfie angling. During the shoot, I wore over-the-knee black stockings, a texture that flatters leg lines wonderfully whether paired with tall boots or standing barefoot on the wooden floor as in the photos. Shooting into the mirror with a phone made focusing tricky due to glass reflections, forcing me to continually adjust positions—such as standing on one foot or leaning against the chair to elongate the visual silhouette.
The shooting process was a real workout: squatting down and standing on tiptoes over and over to find the perfect angle flattened the tail multiple times. Fortunately, the quiet home setting meant no convention crowds staring, allowing me to pause freely to fix my hair and adjust the skirt hem. What I love most about this outfit is the cut of the chest and skirt, which creates great visual impact when paired with black stockings. Although lacking professional studio lighting back home, a single LED light stick combined with a small softbox on the upper left produced great results. As an anime-style photography enthusiast and Fate/Grand Order player crossing from the 9th to the 10th anniversary, doing a proper cosplay shoot of my favorite character on my own floor felt like a meaningful celebration. Spending hours experimenting in front of the mirror was a joy, and I hope this captures Tamamo no Mae's distinctive charm.
