[Kanao Cosplay] Makeup Reference and Daily Records on the Way to the Anime Convention

Accidentally came across these backlogged photos of Kanao while flipping through my album. Since many sisters have recently been asking about the specific application of this makeup look and details about traveling to conventions, I've organized this set of Cosplay selfies taken on the way to the convention as a reference for everyone.

Let's talk about the makeup first, which is the soul of the entire styling. For the base makeup this time, I deliberately chose a matte-textured liquid foundation, doing only localized highlight brightening to retain facial flatness while avoiding reflections in front of the lens. The focus was entirely placed on the eye makeup. To restore the character's serene and clear look, the colored contacts were selected in this highly vibrant light purple, paired with a black gel eyeliner pencil to draw the tight tightline, with the outer corners slightly lowered, and then utilizing a pinkish-purple eyeshadow palette for the base blending in the eye sockets. For the false eyelashes, I didn't select those especially thick and heavy styles, but instead chose a naturally crisscrossed style, then layered on mascara to create a distinct, root-by-root effect, which makes the gaze appear more focused and spiritual. The blush selected a muted flesh-pink light tone, swept across a large area in the center of the face and under the eyes, and finally, the lip color coupled with a matte orange-red lip glaze. The overall makeup looks clean and crisp yet does not lose its atmospheric feel, serving as a perfect example of Anime-inspired makeup.

Next, let's talk about the hairstyle and accessories. Presenting a natural hair-flow texture with a black wig is actually not easy; this wig underwent early trimming for a high cranium vault and crimping treatments to pad it higher. The thickness of the bangs must be well-controlled: too thick looks clumsy and stiff, while too thin lacks the character's unique trait. The framing strands left on both sides beautifully cover the face shape, making the face look smaller and more delicate in the camera. The butterfly hair accessory on the head was chosen after browsing through many shops; its colors and details closely match the setting, and it clips onto the hair very securely, remaining intact without falling off during a whole day of navigating the Anime convention daily life.

The red rope knot at the clothing neckline is a highly defining highlight amidst the largely white-and-black attire. Because this costume is dominated by large areas of pure white, if it lacked this red rope knot, it would inevitably look visually flimsy. To find the right rope knot, I specially sourced materials and handcrafted a modified version myself. It is more three-dimensional than traditional knots, and the two trailing red ropes happen to fall across the chest, playing an excellent role in layering and separation.

The first three photos were casually snapped while sitting in the car waiting for red lights on the way to the anime convention. At that moment, soft light happened to filter through the window into the car, which, combined with the dark background inside the vehicle, made the highlighted areas of the face and costume stand out extraordinarily well. I must say, under this kind of natural light inside a car, the texture of the makeup appears exceptionally superb, capturing a translucent feel without needing a reflector board. The fourth photo was taken in the outdoor plaza outside the convention, where a friend caught a side-profile snapshot while helping me rest the sword on my shoulder. The outdoor overcast ambient light hit the face very softly, and because the pose was quite casual, it came out looking very natural instead, devoid of any stiff, forced posing feel.

Wearing this costume actually tests details quite heavily because white fabric easily gets dirty, so the range of my movements that travel day was kept very restrained. The material of the clothing utilized a relatively crisp cotton-linen blend, beautifully propping up the stand-up collar structure at the neckline. While walking around the exhibition hall, many fellow fans came up to ask about details, including the wig color, makeup tutorials, contact lens brands, and so on. In truth, cosplay is definitely not finished just by putting on the clothes; from styling the wig to drawing the eyeliner, every single step requires an investment of patience and energy.

The entire set of photos did not undergo complex post-processing, without any collages or cropping, sharing almost the original skin tones and textures. Perhaps precisely because of this authenticity, it beautifully reflects that gentle yet focused temperament of this character in everyone's hearts. These backlogged photos record my joyful memories of that outdoor shoot, and I also hope they provide some inspiration for sisters who are hesitating on how to approach this makeup look.
