For this cherry blossom themed photography session featuring a pink-themed cosplay Xianxia style outfit, I did a lot of homework from the wig styling to the costume details. The combination of a high ponytail and double buns for the wig was customized with two different gradient hairpieces of varying colors to restore a sense of lightness, and a hidden support was made on the inside, allowing the overall look to have a full volume in front of the lens without appearing heavy. The most thought-out part of the costume was the material selection for the streamers. To create an ethereal feeling of dancing with the wind, pearlescent chiffon and sheer organza were chosen for multi-layered stacking, with soft iron wires sewn along the edges. This way, even if there is no wind when posing, natural curves can be manually adjusted.
In terms of makeup, to fit the overall atmosphere, the eye makeup used light pink and champagne colors for blending, heavily emphasizing the length and natural feel of the eyelashes. The lip color was chosen as an orange-toned milk tea shade, avoiding a color clash with the cherry blossoms in the background that would make the face look flat. The illuminated part of the staff prop was modified by myself using acrylic boards and LED light strips. Although it added some weight, the fill light effect during the actual shoot was fantastic, directly providing a soft base light for the face. The background arrangement this time was also very deliberate, featuring artificial cherry blossom trees, mirror reflections on the ground, and scattered cherry blossom petals, combined with a dark-toned background to highlight the subject, making the entire scene dreamy without being overly cluttered.
During the shoot, I tried a few different poses. The sitting and standing positions each have their own characteristics, but I personally prefer the one standing with the staff, because it can fully showcase the layers of the costume, the extension of the streamers, and the details of the prop. This process of externalizing the character in my mind was an excellent exercise for the costume, makeup, props, and expressiveness for a game character cosplayer handling ancient-style role-playing. I hope this look can bring everyone a refreshing feeling.
