This studio shoot had been in preparation for quite a while; from the layered trimming of the wig to every piece of embroidery and metal accessory on the costume, everything was checked repeatedly with the tailor. The color scheme of Ruan Mei's anime-style fashion is very unique—interweaving mineral green and deep blue, paired with a white gauze shawl and golden patterns, its texture looks exceptionally wonderful under the studio's soft light. Before the shoot, I specifically communicated with the photographer that I wanted a \"serene courtyard under the moon\" atmosphere, so the background chosen featured Chinese-style wooden windows, a full moon lamp, and thin gauze draperies, with props matched with a green bamboo oil-paper umbrella and a folding fan, beautifully bringing out the character's elegance and sense of detachment.

We shot a few sets of both standing and sitting postures, and the one holding the umbrella to half-cover my face is my absolute favorite; the light and shadow falling on my face made my skin tone look very translucent, and my gaze happened to lock perfectly with the lens. The folding fan set utilized foreground blur, fully maximizing the layers of the wooden windows and potted plants in the back. To be honest, this pair of shoes comes with heels, so my ankles felt a bit sore after standing on the wooden boardwalk for a long time, but seeing the final photos made it feel entirely worth it. Although this studio shoot cost quite a bit of budget, from makeup and styling to lighting and post-processing, the team's coordination was incredibly tacit, wasting not a single frame of the shutter.

When it comes to recreating a character, I think the most critical part is actually the facial expressions and demeanor. Ruan Mei's unearthly vibe that feels detached from the mortal world yet carries a touch of gentleness requires relaxing the shoulders and slightly tucking the chin, and arm movements shouldn't be too forceful. On set, I played some of the character's original in-game voice lines to get into the zone; although it felt a bit chunibyo, it was indeed very helpful for getting into character. The color tone selected this time leaned towards a cool grey, and no excessive skin smoothing was done in post-processing, preserving the authentic textures of the skin and the clothing, which gives it more of an ancient style photography film flavor.

Many fellow hobbyists might worry that studio shoots look stiff. In fact, as long as you decide on reference photos with the photographer beforehand, and then move around more and switch perspectives on set, the dynamic feel captured through candid shots will look much more natural. This time we shot about two hundred negatives in total, and finally selected these six most representative ones. I personally participated in adjusting the composition of every single one, such as the position of the umbrella, the opening and closing angle of the fan, and the floating trajectory of the shawl.

If everyone also loves this kind of cool Chinese-style cosplay theme, I highly recommend using plenty of side-backlighting to pierce through the thin gauze, paired with a tiny bit of ambient smoke, which instantly makes it feel ethereal. This shooting experience made me even more determined to keep doing cosplay well, treating every single creation with a sincere heart—even if there is only one day, I must leave the character's soul within the lens.
