[Firefly cosplay] Looking Back in a Summer Outdoor Shoot by the Waterfront | Honkai: Star Rail

I'm quite satisfied with these convention photos of my Firefly cosplay from Honkai: Star Rail on Day 4 of the CICF Expo. The weather and lighting conditions cooperated very well that day, and combined with the photographer's quick snapshots, this set preserved a lot of vivid energy.

Regarding hair and makeup, Firefly's wig features a white base with a blue-green gradient, where the transition at the tips looks very soft under natural light. The hairstyle maintained an appropriate fluffy curvature, paired with lightweight bangs so as not to feel overly heavy. Contact lenses were chosen in a soft purple-pink tone, nicely highlighting a clear gaze. Eye makeup focused on blending around the outer corners and brightening the aegyo sal, using softer shades to complement the overall refreshing palette. Base makeup was kept as translucent and natural as possible, paired with peach blush so that the face maintained a soft texture even under high-contrast outdoor light.

The costume is the centerpiece of this look. The upper body's white sailor-collar uniform fabric is crisp, featuring black-and-white stripe trim along the collar edges, a light blue plaid bow tie on the chest, and small golden collar accessories, all recreating original costume details as faithfully as possible. Golden wheat ears and clover badges are embroidered on the cuffs and collar flaps; these embroidered details show great texture on camera, adding refinement to the overall look. The dark grey plaid pleated skirt on the lower half underwent tight shape-setting, yielding crisp lines when the wind blows or during a turn. The matching White over-the-knee socks form a visually crucial part of the outfit's proportions; the socks are slightly sheer, fitting leg lines closely with delicate embroidery patterns near the top. Paired with black chunky-heeled loafers, it not only elongates leg proportions but also aligns with the character's crisp and lively temperament.

For props, I specially prepared a bouquet wrapped in Kraft paper, featuring pink roses, blue hydrangeas, and white accents, tied with yellow and purple ribbons and a small card attached. This handheld prop served as a fantastic interaction point during the shoot, dissolving awkward hand poses. The outdoor shoot location was chosen in an open public space by the waterfront, offering both modern urban skyscrapers and bridges as background elements while the water surface provided ambient light reflections.

During shooting, the photographer utilized a shallow depth of field to establish the environment nicely, gently blurring background buildings and bridges to make the main subject pop. Daytime lighting was relatively strong, so we balanced exposure control to preserve highlight details, lending the overall picture a bright, translucent, and fresh atmosphere. Beyond standard standing and seated shots, we used puddles on the ground to attempt water reflection compositions, where the mirror effect added an interesting visual depth. The night scene portion waited until total darkness, where streetlights and moonlight provided a fantastic warm-cold contrast. Sitting on stone steps by the water, letting streetlight outline character silhouettes against a deep blue night sky created a serene and high-end atmosphere for Cosplay photography.

Doing an outdoor shoot during a convention like CICF Expo involves a very tight schedule, but fortunately, having hair, makeup, and props prepared in advance allowed us to get into the zone quickly on site. Completing a full, cohesive photoset like this required coordination with the photographer and fine-tuning character demeanor on location.

Looking at the final photos by the waterfront, the sunburn and running around that day felt completely worth it. This crisp white uniform, grey plaid skirt, blue-white gradient hair, and flower bouquet accents showcased the character's innate freshness and vitality. I look forward to working with the team to shoot more works that capture character spirit in the future.
