Shooting Shinano's swimwear version from Azur Lane was, truthfully, far more intricate than imagined. Beginning with hair and makeup, the long straight silver-purple wig paired with oversized fox ears involved numerous costume accessories. The white lace bustier easily blew out under harsh outdoor sunlight, requiring meticulous highlight control. Each glossy blue accent bow and pearl strand had to be anchored firmly to prevent shifting during movement.

Scouting the set and calibrating positioning were equally demanding. We shot around the amusement park pool area, surrounded by prominent red water slides, blue pools, yellow stairs, and green foliage. Poor positioning would have caused the blue-and-white outfit to bleed into the backdrop and look visually cluttered. I prioritized shooting against wooden boardwalks, rope railings, and the water surface, using the warm brown wood tones and cool blue water to frame the swimwear cleanly.

The sheer chiffon skirt was delightfully breezy, but caught the wind easily and tangled around my legs. Backlighting was necessary to capture its semi-translucent drape, yet doing so risked revealing background clutter through the sheer weave. To strike the right balance, post-processing unified the color palette, using soft glow and rim highlights to clean the subject's edges for a crisp, luminous finish.

Posing demanded rigorous precision. When standing and lifting the skirt hem in clear-heeled sandals, I shifted my weight onto the back leg while softly bending the front leg to elongate calf contours cleanly. For squatting poses, leaning forward required careful angling to prevent wardrobe malfunctions while carving an elegant S-curve silhouette. Leaning against the wooden railing appeared effortless, but actually required engaging both the arms and waist to avoid hunched shoulders.

We later captured additional frames by the water's edge and along the steps; with stiff breezes fluttering the skirt continuously, timing the candid shutter bursts became essential. Each time the flash fired, I reset my demeanor instantly to maintain expressive consistency. Shinano's styling strongly channels aquatic motifs, with blue butterflies and bows echoing her oceanic lore. For a cosplayer, capturing both the character's soul and intricate costume nuances was the greatest reward of this shoot.
