I took on Cheshire's qipao styling from Azur Lane (Azur Lane) this time, investing considerable thought right from the prep stage. Cheshire is an energetic and adorably clingy character, so once I locked in this cheongsam variant, I constantly deliberated on how to honor her canonical anime persona while weaving seamlessly into this neo-Chinese classical setting.
On the wardrobe front, this pale-blue modernized qipao boasts intricate details, including metallic-sheen textiles, cutout keyholes across the neckline, and golden piping. To accentuate bodily contours, I specifically tightened the waist cinching so seated postures would flatter my proportions cleanly. The upper torso is draped with sheer white gossamer tulle accented by metallic pearl chains; to prevent visual emptiness, I added a plush white faux-fur capelet, introducing luxurious elegance while building up tactile volume against dark antique wooden furniture. The headpiece was the most eye-catching centerpiece of the styling: atop an oversized white lace bonnet hat, massive blue silk blossoms and flowing satin ribbons served as the crowning touch, instantly delivering an exaggerated yet exquisitely refined anime aesthetic. For the wig, I selected a blunt-bang short bob featuring a subtle grayish-green gradient, trimming the sidelocks to frame and sculpt my face shape. The makeup focused squarely on the eyes, wearing bright-blue contact lenses, deepening the eyeshadow with fine shimmer, and defining the aegyo-sal to reflect Cheshire's lively, spirited gaze.
The set was staged in an indoor antique hall steeped in classical elegance. Deep-toned carved daybeds, curio display shelves, and sprawling branches of crimson blossoms in the background established a striking warm-versus-cool chromatic contrast against my icy-blue attire. For lighting, the photographer intentionally dialed down ambient background exposure, concentrating warm key lights onto my face and dewy skin, allowing the subject to pop sharply from the shadows and enhancing the frame's dimensional depth.
Regarding posing, wearing a high-slit qipao with white lace garter thigh-high stockings (White stockings) meant spending extensive time fine-tuning seated silhouettes. For instance, in the third frame, sitting sideways on the daybed with one leg extended and the other slightly bent not only elongated leg lines, but naturally revealed the delicate lace borders of the White stockings (White stockings). Holding a folding fan gently against my chin while gazing into the lens used the fan as a foreground framing element to enrich compositional depth. The second frame leveraged the plush shawl for a half-veiled look, harmonizing with antique scrolls and inkstones across the table to evoke languid tranquility. The fourth frame's knee-hugging posture spotlighted the calves and leg contours, using a softly curled-up pose to make legs appear slender while directing visual focus upward toward the bodice cutouts. Throughout the shoot, expressive eye contact remained vital—avoiding any blank stare in favor of Cheshire's signature playful, flirtatious whimsy.
Whenever cosplaying modernized concept variants, balancing canonical traits with real-world tailoring is always a delicate dance. Through these captures, I hope everyone can appreciate Cheshire's alluring versatility across diverse settings. From lighting design to micro-adjustments of physical poise, every detail was polished to achieve the highest visual payoff.
